"Jane's Addiction: In The Studio" Book

Post by hydro »

I caught wind of this a few months back when Kelly Wheeler(bass player for Psi Com) posted on his twitter that he was doing an interview for a Janes Addiction book to be released next yr 2010
this is what he tweeted
"Was interviewed recently for new Jane's Addiction book discussing Psi Com in the studio. Look for it to be published next year. 6:40 PM Nov 16th, 2009 from web"

I asked him who was writting the book and he told me

"I believe it's Jake Brown. @hydro75grl: @SexTapesband Hi Kelly could you tell me who's writing the book? 4:18 PM Nov 17th, 2009 from web"

Unique "Music Memorabilia With A Paycheck" Auction March 13-20 At SongVest.com To Feature The Rights To "Jane's Addiction: In The Studio" And "Alice In Chains: In The Studio" From Publisher Rock 'N' Roll Books

SongVest, the company that reinvented music memorabilia by auctioning song rights directly to fans, has announced their next online auction will offer alternative rock fans the opportunity to bid on the royalty stream of two new books, 'Alice in Chains: in the Studio' and 'Jane's Addiction: in the Studio'. The auction will take place exclusively at songvest.com from March 13-20 in advance of each book's retail release later this year.

SongVest has partnered with book publisher Rock 'N' Roll Books to offer a 30% ownership share in the book's master rights of each title. In addition to sharing in the royalty stream the retail and e-sales generate, the high bidder will also receive a one-of-a-kind platinum album, an 'Associate Publisher' credit in the book's printing, and an exclusive behind-the-scenes bonus DVD featuring interview excerpts from the many rock luminaries interviewed exclusively for the book.

"After the success of our previous book auction, we couldn't wait to team up again with SongVest to offer alternative rock fans the opportunity to own a piece of books about the genre's most iconic and influential bands, Jane's Addiction and Alice in Chains," said author Jake Brown

The auction will begin at 3PM EST on Saturday, March 13 and end at 3PM EST on Saturday, March 20. Fans can register now at www.songvest.com to learn more about plans for the book's retail release.

Since 2007, SongVest has offered music fans, collectors, and investors the unique opportunity to share the royalties with the writers of their favorite music. Past auctions have included the rights to songs recorded by Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Carrie Underwood, Ringo Starr, Ozzy Osbourne, Natalie Cole, and The Monkees.

sure would be awesome to be able to bid on this book!!! Im looking around on songvest site now,you have to register to see more info but worth the look around.starting min bid is $500
Now, for the first time in the pages of ‘Jane’s Addiction: In The Studio,’ fans are taken behind the scenes and quite literally in the studio with V.I.P. access inside the writing and recording of such legendary classics as ‘Jane Says,’ ‘Coming Down the Mountain’, ‘Three Days,’ ‘Been Caught Stealing,’ and ‘Stop’. Chronicled via exclusive interviews with lead producer Dave Jerden, engineer Ronnie S. Champagne, legendary Pink Floyd producer Bob Ezrin, as well as early players in discovering the band, including former Triple X Records A&R executives and members of Perry Farrell’s first L.A. band PSI COM (where the sonic foundations of Jane’s experimental sound were first discovered/fine-tuned), the book is by far the most definitive study of Jane’s Addiction’s legendary musical legacy.
Copyright Ownership

Buying a portion of a writer’s share is much like buying staged used instruments or other music memorabilia; the value is not limited entirely to its financial potential. The uniqueness of book ownership and the one-of-a-kind platinum wall award is a significant portion of the appeal of the purchase. While book ownership is the only memorabilia that has the ability to yield a paycheck, like other music memorabilia it may or may not be considered an investment by traditional standards depending on the individual purchaser.

Breakdown of Ownership

Book royalties are based on the retail price of $20 for the physical book and $10 for eBooks. It is then broken into three categories, normal retail channels, Barnes&Noble and eBook/Kindle.
Royalty Information

What Does "Potential Earnings " Mean?

The income represented here is only an average of projected book sales. The first print run is for 3,000 copies, although that does not imply that all 3,000 will be sold.

The second project is to give the buyer an idea of potential earnings if there were to be a second run of 2,000 additional copies "if" the first 3,000 were sold out.

We have projected that 15% of total book sales will come through the B&N and 15% will come through the eBook/Kindle channel, but that is an estimate only. We have no way to project the allocation by sales channel or total number of book sales.

It's Ron Champagne the engineer guy.

I am excited about this book!
At the same time I'm cautiously optimistic.

What I'm hoping for in this book is the facts.
I want dates, personal, etc.

Maybe we'll finally learn exactly where the Psi-Com tracks 14th Floor, Cat, and Karuna fit in.

My best guess is they were recorded some time after the Worktape 1 release but before the recording sessions for the EP.

I think those three tracks are what the liner notes in the Viva Los Angeles II booklet are referring to.
Their production was limited to WORKTAPE 1 (3 track cassette) and PSI-COM (Mohini Rec. 1985, 5 track 12" LP), plus a live tape including some studio tracks from 83/84.
You can read the complete blurb here:

or here:

At any rate my fingers are crossed and I'll definitely be picking this up. :oldtimer:
