He was like the Barrett of the 1990's. Pyros was about the art.

If Eric couldn't get Perry to go back to the good ole ways of early Jane's (Minus Drugs) then no one can.

i think perry's voice peaked in 1996. that's the last time he was fearless vocally, where no matter what he attempted it just flew out flawlessly. you can hear the rasp starting in 1997. he has smoked heavily for decades and it has caused irreparable damage. you can also start hearing the "old man jew" thing around 1997. there was definitely a change. it's a very charming tone, but not the little kid screaming in key thing we're accustomed to. the vocal change is greatly evidenced by the band tuning down for the first time in 1997. they seemed to go back and forth. i would assume by the end of this tour they had to tune down.... all the drugs and shit. this was the beginning of the end, or the beginning of the "new", to be politically correct. when a band like this tunes down, it's like losing a cylinder in your engine. if a band like RATM tuned down a half step it would have the same effect, it would lose balls. the original music of jane's addiction just doens't hit hard when tuned down, slowed down and phoned in, hence all the disappointed old school fans. hell, i know so many people who were just casual old fans, talk about walking out or being greatly disappointed. yea, no shit!

when perry smokes, at least when i've seen him, he holds it in strongly like a beast, even cupping his hands, which is high-level pothead type shit. the single worst thing a singer can do is smoke. it is very bad for your lungs. there is a myth and debate over holding in pot smoke leading to greater effects. there is research saying holding in does not increase effects. damage is done.

holy crap listen to some of the 1990 ritual tour show (miami) or the 91 lolla shows, what that man was able to do was astonishing and seemingly unparalleled. off the scale incredible. he is capable of sounding decent at times but let's not pretend here, that old wail has been gone for 20 years now. it's fine, whatever. and don't get me started about the stories of perry in the studio nowadays. don't get me wrong, i love the voice regardless, but someone like Axl has maintained much, much more of the old school tone and wail. perry lost the ability to wail and hit the highs, and do the screams. the same would've happened to kurt cobain, you can't scream forever.

hopefully there is never a porno for pyros reunion or whatever, the would be a true shame. i can't even imagine how un-special that would be. talk about a dated, era band. they ruled and then it ended. there is no place for it. doing a reunion would do nothing but spark lame nostalgia for 50 people and take away from whatever legacy there is. please, no need to even further damage your legacy, don't do it.

perry sounds more like jackie mason than young perry thesedays
