It's not that his voice has gone bad or anything because he can still sound good when he tries. Its not really his age that is the stumbling block. The problem is his motivation. He's not motivated because he can't make money off selling albums. He's apathetic. If you doubt me, think about how long has it been since he released any new material? The Great Escape Artist was 5 years ago.
We need to remind him to go back to his former ways and forms. He should be motivated to use his voice while he still can. He should be motivated while there is still a fan base interested in what he puts out. He should be motivated for the sake of art. He should resist the tendency to put out boring material or substandard filler. He needs to be sniffing the nag champa vapors for motivation. He needs to dig out his old practice tapes and pull some lines and put them into music. He needs to do various types of surrealist abstract paintings to go along with the music to energize it. He needs to listen to 1997 Jane's Addiction "Early Morning (rough mix)" = https://clyp.it/1vfjrtn3 and remember the artform and make it sound good again.

Re: Perry's voice
For anybody who might be interested. I made a lite remix of JA - Ripple. The heavy backing was diminished so Perry's voice could be highlighted. Some effects were added to make the music more interesting. He does a fine Brian Wilson-esque falsetto in the intro/outro and his Graham Nash imitation (Crosby, Stills, and Nash) is just splendid. Hope you enjoy listening as much as I had a good time mixing. Here you go: Jane's Addiction Ripple _ purple lite mix https://clyp.it/c0fopnjp

Re: Perry's voice
Dave play undistorted solo on Ripple sound classy.
Janes especially in the early days is that we would go through phases of gravitating towards stylistic choices that were definitely not in at the times when we were gravitating towards them. I can say there was about a six-month window where Perry and I had this house like out in, god, I don't even know where it was but it was in some like really foresty suburb of LA. And we just kind of sat around and like cooked fish and smoked weed and made acoustic music and got really into some kind of bizarre hippie sub-culture.

Great remix Devin! I missed the wav file.
Did you work on other songs?
Would be great a trippy-remix Jane album.

Once again Perry looks + sounds fabulous. The inclusion of 'Obvious and No One's Leavin' is a real treat. This ranks up there as possible the best show since their Australia tour '11
