Porno For Pyros interview 1993 - Perry Farrell & the whole band

Post by Hidefumi »

notes : A pretty intense conversation about Perry's transition to the short-lived Porno For Pyros from Jane's Addiction. Perry is brutally frank about himself. Steve Harris interpreted and the interview was done on Sept. 23, 1993. We're now on Facebook: Look up the group "Musicians in Their Own Words" Snippets here.

Perry Farrell - "I don't think its a return to the street at all because we're trying to be very creative and artistic about music. And just look at it in a musical sense and how to better it from an artistic point of view. To tell you the truth my favorite thing is not exactly playing live my favorite thing is to write songs and to record songs and i wanna try to do more of that. We're caught up in a system where the modern musician has got to do a lot of live touring its a very difficult thing we're trying to pave a new path for musicians and theres a lotta bumps and our road has not been a very easy one theres been a lot of heartaches in trying to do this i don't think people were expecting what we gave them they expected to see just a regular live band was so different that even the promotion wasn't quite up to par but we're forging a new path and we've been told by a lot of musicians that are legendary people like Neil Young that we should continue doing what we're doing because we're breaking ground and not to get discouraged. We're gonna keep doing that we're doing something new we're trying to cross cabaret and rock and surf and all these things and its never been done and we're being promoted as a regular rock band and we've also got the reputation that comes with Janes Addiction which is another reason why i wanted to take a back seat these musicians are better as an ensemble this unit is musically more alert and more sophisticated and connected with each other there as good as i am musically they deserve as much attention as i do and its very difficult to get that going because i started first i have a reputation already everybody in this band is as clever musically as i am with there instrument they are the cream of the crop. I would people people to stick to the truth of the integrity of what there hearts desire was and not stray from it or let other people stray them from it and try to do what they want to me on an artistic level thats what i would hope people would gain from my death that i didn't stray from what i really wanted to do and didn't let people move me from the use of money or power or fame that i was true to myself as an artist but really i don't wanna die at all i want to keep creating and be as vital as i am artistically."

Funny hearing that interview. The hoarseness wasn't there in the 90's. The strainedness doesn't just kick in on stage you can hear it all the time now when he talks. https://vimeo.com/160666936 Sounds like some body who has been a smoker for 2 long and could have Polyps or something.
