L.A. Song writing credits

Post by adict2jane »

Hi All,
I noticed in the liner notes from the Deconstruction album that L.A. Song is written by the band but also Bob Spickard and Brian Carman, two guys from a 60's surf band called The Chantays, are on there. Does anyone know the details of this? Did a bunch of google searching but nothing came up. Thanks in advance!

Best bet is there is likely a sample from a song by The Chantays used in the song.

This got me curious, so during LA Song at about the 3:30 mark, in the background you can hear some of The Chantays' song Pipeline. Appears that song gets sampled a lot

good find!

Well, that definitely seems to be the answer. Thank you!
I never gave that background guitar part much thought, never would have guessed it was a sample, I guess that means it was well done! I always felt like it was a good segway to the end of the song.
I'm glad Eric, Dave, and Mike gave them credit.

Also, related to this topic, do you happen to know what movie or TV show is sampled at the beginning of the song?

No idea what the movie or TV show is sampled at the beginning. It is fairly indistinct, probably a great question to ask Avery if there is ever an opportunity.

I'm getting somewhat obsessed by this.
There is also a sample from Blade Runner in LA Song at 1:44.
