10/01/1987 - Herman's Hideaway, Denver, CO - Newsprint @ SDW

intertwoven has confirmation of this show on his site:
From: Erik Solof
Subject: Two Denver J.A. tour dates for your live show listing!
Date: Mon, 26 May 2003 03:03:18 +0000

[...] The second, earlier show, also known as "Choices I Wish I Could Go Back In Time And Change"- I was living in Boulder at the time, and saw that jazz pianist Keith Jarrett was playing at the Paramount Theater in Denver. I went. Bad choice. The same evening, Jane's was playing at Herman's Hideaway three miles south of the Paramount. I have the review of the show, from the Boulder Daily Camera, but unfortunately, I cut out just the review, and have no date. I looked up Jarrett concert schedules on the web, they list one from 10/14/87, but as the review says, the show was on the first of October. If you really wanted, I could call Herman's and see if they remember anything. I spoke with the owner many years ago, and he was polite, but didn't really remember anything. Anyhow, here's the show review, verbatim:

PERFORMANCE: Los Angeles suffered its worst earthquake since 1971 on Oct. 1, an upheaval measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale. L.A. band Jane's Addiction's performance at Herman's Hideaway in Denver that night had to have measured at least that: we're talkin' LOUD, a frightening roar that would've killed small animals. If you took the Red Hot Chili Peppers and replaced their crush on George Clinton with a Led Zeppelin fixation, you'd have something close to this hardcore foursome. True, violently deafening frenzy is a limited emotional medium, and I felt as if I was being beaten over the head with a blunt instrument (could've done without singer Perry Farrell's striptease, too). But for sheer visceral wallop, nobody this side of Metallica can touch these guys.

So yeah, I have to live with that brilliant choice, and ironically, I live four blocks from Herman's now, and get to drive by it quite frequently, as a constant reminder! So 3/17/89 is a definite, and I'm thinking 10/1/87 is the other show date.

I tried to search the archives of the Boulder Daily Camera but they only go back to 1998. :(

Edit: I looked into the earthquake aspect of the review and was able to confirm it.
