What a bummer for those in attendance.
Jane's Addiction at Musikfest was evacuated when things got moving - REVIEW

Not even lightning or the threat of being struck by it could break fans away from the Jane's Addiction show tonight at Musikfest in Bethlehem.

When Perry Farrell was forced to tell the crowd they'd have to leave the Steel Stage because of the weather moving in, the audience stood in denial.

"We love you Bethlehem," he said. "We've got to keep you safe."

Farrell promised that if the band couldn't come back on stage that night, they'd return to Bethlehem to finish their set another time. Musikfest representatives took the stage and instructed everyone to go to their vehicles or to the ArtsQuest Center for safety.

But in the half hour Jane's Addiction did get to perform, they didn't waste time in getting to the songs that made the crowd fall in lust with them from the advent of their career.

Taking the stage to surreal smoke and Pink Floyd's "The Machine," girls sitting on above trapezes in white dresses swayed back and forth to the hard bass lines and driving guitar of Dave Navarro on stage.

As Ferrell's voice chimed in, it faltered but his hollowed out rock star antics carried him through with fervor. As his voice seemed to fade, it was eminent the sound absence could have also come from his mic being pulled away from his mouth as he danced and glided across the stage.

But as the crowd got more into the show, the red wine flowed over Farrell's lips straight from the bottle and "Just Because" kicked in. Navarro shredded and Ferrell's voice caught up.

No wonder the audience didn't want to leave. Things were just starting to come alive as the band got out of "Mountain Song" and "Been Caught Stealin."

Early in the set, Farrell promised a surreal experience. This was exactly what they started to deliver -- a show worthy of headliner status.

"Tonight in Bethlehem, maybe the messiah will be reborn," he projected.

But not even Ferrell's ethereal presence had control over the night's most powerful deity.

Mother Nature.
