Interesting. :headscratch:
Now I gotta go give this another listen to see if I can hear these cats.
I'd not noticed it but maybe I did and I'm just not familiar with these instruments? :noclue:
Either way it's a good excuse to crank up some new Jane's!

Mike, compare the two side-by-side, like I described. It's not subtle. I don't believe that it's all compression--I think the mix was pretty muddy before it was mastered. Dave's guitar has way more reverb on it in the released version, and Perry is mixed lower to the point where a lot of his expressiveness is lost. Other details disappear.

Some people have mentioned that the song sounds better in the recently-released studio vid. I agree. This is either the earlier version from the radio, or some other version. In the vid, Perry's voice is mixed high and is clear as a bell.

I caught a minute with Dave's show tonight...and he said he played the third mix of End to the Lies...I was on jinky headphones but I wonder if it's a new mix?....I love Dave...He was talking about making tapes.... and when he bailed out on old bands...Out grew them...and I felt he was talking for me...Sounds like every kid who was alive at that time did the same things...Trying to get the best copy of that album you just bought and take it with ya....walkmans were the shit back in the day

I had to go to youtube and check out some of their music before I could hear it, in "End To The Lies". you can hear the sounds of the Master Musicians at the very end of the song like the last 10 secs, you can hear that high pitch of the rhiata instrument

Is there a way to hear this playback? The podcasts on itunes aren't up to date. I listened to one a few weeks ago and it was mildly entertaining. I am now sitting here at work trying to find something to listen to.

I had a feeling Dave was going to bust something out last night and stayed up late to listen.
Needless to say it was hard getting up this morning and I was so tired when I called that I screwed the pooch and didn't ask half the questions I'd wanted to.

He did indeed play a third version of the song and though I couldn't crank it up I thought it sounded closer to the version Perry sprang in South America than it did the version they have up for download.

The mix tape talk was hilarious and I kind of felt bad for Dan having not had the pleasure of listening to vinyl.
