The Hendrix song is actually called "Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun)".

Actually I think either title would be considered correct.
When it was released on Midnight Lightning it was called Gypsy Boy.
"Gypsy Boy" likely dates from 1970 and is similar to the song "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)" from Rainbow Bridge, although it is over two minutes shorter in length.

I've been lucky enough to have spoken to Pete at length about Jimi and not only is he a fan but he's rather knowledgeable when it comes to his music.

exactly and if Pete says it's Gypsy Boy then it's Gypsy Boy  even though my brain wants to call it New Rising Sun.

Pete said Perry suggested they play Kimberly Austin and Gypsy Boy. Unlike previous years of playing Pets and Tahitian Moon Perry wanted to play something special and different with Pete he said, and only wanted to play with Pete

Pete said it was a danger jam. That they hadn't played Kimberly Austin for possibly 10yrs or more and only rehearsed it backstage minutes before they played for the crowd. Pete says he felt so honored and happy that Perry choose those songs and him
