Mos def - I just listened to the Club Lingerie 'tape' from 6/13/1985 back-to-back with Worktape 1 and you can really see the difference. Although a "Janes-ish" lilt only creeps into a couple of the live tracks, you can see the direction change away from the slower, more mannered style of Worktape 1.helicine wrote:You're probably right there. The impression I got was that Rich was the one handling that sort of stuff, and since he still had some of the tape labels and pieces years later, that would reinforce it.RiotNrrrd wrote:This really makes me wonder which show I bought my Worktape 1 at! I suppose it's possible they were selling the tape after Rich & Mariska left the band, but it would make more sense that I bought it when they were still in the group.
I think while he was in the band, Rich was their "leader" - when he and Mariska left, Perry took more control of the band. I think their attitude and music reflected more of who Perry was. I think you can really hear, Psi Com's sound evolve and by the time you hit the Mohini album, the seeds of what bloomed into JA - especially w/in Perry's singing.
(I hope you can all understand why I preferred their style with Rich still in the band - and why I stopped paying attention after June of 1985. To me it's simply a 'richer' sound, very unique for the era.)
