Why if they knew that perry was ill did they have the whole stage set up just to have dave to come out and say that they werent gonna play at the same time they were due on stage? They lost a lot of respect last night from a lot of fans. Smelt of bullshit to me.

yeah, sounds like they were hopeful Perry would be feeling ok by the time they were set to go on, but obviously he wasn't.
I still think the other guys should've just at least jammed some instrumental covers n' shit and asked singers of other bands who were at the festival if they would guest-sing a Jane's song or two. Sure, many fans would be disappointed it was really Jane's, but would've been so much better than just backing out completely like they did.

maybe to get paid the large paychecks they were offered, Perry had to perform?

if not, they could have easily played a 10 song set with different singers, instrumentals, covers, etc.

of course, it would have been funny if they came out and played the usual set without Perry. all instrumental and see if anyone noticed or cared. ha.

I seriously doubt it is bullshit - it would be serious amateur hour for a band to try and pull that off. The posts on twitter seemed genuine to me, and that the cancellation was a last minute deal - that they were hoping all day Perry would be okay enough to perform. It really sucks for the fans that were hoping to see them, but shit happens.

We got in the day before the show and went straight to rehearsals. While we were doing that Perry starting feeling a little under the weather so we stopped and called a doctor. He came and checked him out and prescribed him some medication and told him to rest. As we'd cancelled Reading once before in 1990 we were absolutely dedicated to playing the show so Perry followed doctors orders and rested.

Navarro then revealed that the band were all set to play and had begun warming up when they realised there was still a problem with the singer. He said:
We got on site, before we play we have this little room backstage where we warm up and get ready and we were in there, all set to play. Perry was dressed and had his inner ear monitors in and we go to start and literally nothing came out of his voice. So we called a festival doctor, who came straight away and diagnosed Perry with an upper respiratory infection and told him that speaking, let alone singing, was out of the question.

The guitarist apologised to fans and said that the band were "beyond gutted" to miss the shows. He added:
We're more than sincerely apologetic to all our fans who came to see us. We were all gutted, so gutted. We love playing here. But we've got to take care of him. If he'd pushed it and played then he could have really injured himself. People had to tell him he couldn't play, because he sure wanted to. He took every precaution and really tried to not let it get him.

Navarro also said that though the band are hopeful they will be able to play their scheduled gig at London's Koko on Tuesday, it is still very much "touch and go" at this stage. He said:
He [Farrell] saw another doctor today and everything is touch and go at the moment, he's in bed, but we're taking everything day by day. He's being a real champ about trying to recover as quickly as possible.

I feel for Perry, I can relate a lil I guess because the very first time Pete came to stay with me I lost my voice, like really bad. All I could do was whisper and I couldn't even do that at times. The last day and a half he was here I couldn't talk to him at all  Peter DiStefano was at my house all the way from CA and I couldn't even have a conversation with him . it took prob 3-4 days after he left to get my voice back...and I tried everything!
somethings we just don't have any control over.
Hope Perry is resting and a miracle happens for the London show
