Cool or Interesting Things You've Noticed Lately

Post by Mike »

I'd like to think I'm fairly well schooled when it comes to Jane's but every once in a while even I'm surprised.
Here's a couple of things I just noticed this past weekend that I think are cool.

I recently scored a XXX press kit off ebay.
I've been on the lookout for one of these for a longtime now but had only ever seen one other offered and it was priced out of my reach at $100.

Anyway I scored this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... OU:US:1123

It arrived this weekend and I opened it and was instantly reminded of the Song List bootleg I bought years ago.
Bootlegger Totonka took the biography found on page one of the press kit and used it word for word on the back page of the bootleg insert!

Here it is for those like me who never knew this.

Another thing that I noticed while looking at the scans for the Song List boot is that three of the pictures in the booklet are from the same photo shoot or location as the picture that comes with the Live and Profane bootleg.

I've had these bootlegs for years and can't believe I never noticed this before.

Here's the picture from the Live and Profane boot.

The following two scans are from the Song List boot and the pictures of Perry, Dave, and Stephen are the ones I'm talking about.

Wow, good find. I never noticed that. Now the big question is, where was that photo taken? Looks like a in-store performance of some type?? I have always wondered this...

How could you guys not notice that? I noticed those photos were from the same shoot years ago, '91-'92 after buying both of those boots.

Many months ago, Casey posted on her FB page about an acoustic guitar that early PFP era Perry was playing in a photo and said that it was stolen. I asked her about it, privately, and showed her that pic of Eric playing and a couple of others from the Wiltern house, and she said that was the same guitar, and that she never remembered Eric having one of his own. I also asked her about the location of that photo that looks like an in-store, and she told me it was a room in the Wiltern house.

I always assumed it was from the Wilton house also but then I noticed that the posters seems to have pieces of paper pinned to them as if they were price tags and if you look at the individual picture of Stephen you can see lots of records behind him like how they would be in a store

Yeah I never noticed it before either and I've had Song List for a long, long time and Live and Profane for quite a while as well.

I've been trying to figure out the origin of the Live and Profane photo for years now.
I thought I had figured it out a while back when I stumbled across the Bebop Records show but the owner of Bebop told me it's not his store.

Just never noticed it before and I honestly have no idea why it suddenly dawned on me. :dunce:

No offense to Casey or you but I don't believe for a second that these pics were taken at The Wilton House.
I have a larger scan on my external hard drive somewhere and the photo from Live and Profane is here in this mess someplace too but the bottom line is when you scan it at higher resolution you can clearly see that those sticky pad notes on the posters are price tags.

Who hangs posters on their walls and leaves the price tags on them?
Are we to believe that Jane's were running a record store out of The Wilton House back in the day?

I agree with Mike on this one. The images are clearly from a record store, though which one is a mystery. There are prices on the posters, as Mike pointed out, as well as record store bins. The picture(s) on Live and Insane, on the other hand, I do believe are from the Wilton House. Maybe Casey mixed the two up?

It's obvious but I don't think anyone pointed it out in this thread yet: the individual image of Eric is clearly not from the same performance as the group shot or the three pics of the others. His clothes, instrument, and the setting are all different.

One last note. Clearly, someone close to the band was releasing these side boots (the Tonka/Tontonka boots in particular). Has this been discussed? Resolved? My suspicion was that they came through Charlie Brown. At any rate, whoever it was had access to XXX material (live recordings, press, image) that had never been released publicly (so someone who worked there or had free access to it). I know they (XXX) had plenty of this stuff around b/c when I was an eager little kid I used to bug them, dropping by their offices randomly and scoring live tapes from them.

I asked Perry about this photo on twitter this past week and this is what he had to say.
