I definitely think you are in the minority there. I think what you are thinking would fly with the small subset of people who are bigger P4P fans than JA fans, like yourself. However, it just wouldn't fly with the bulk of the fan base.

Pete, Martyn and Watt are all awesome musicians, but JA w/o Navarro & Avery is definitely not JA.

But, to each their own

Porno For Pyros I like better than Jane's Addiction. The classic ones Black Girlfriend, Kimberly Austin, Orgasm, Porpoise Head, Good Gods. Put me in good mood.

i kinda like them better too ... i just think pete plays guitar with more class than dave and there are definately some cringe worthy solos by dave ... pete is more classic punk acoustic raw .. dave is more fast fingers no substance and honestly he mutilated summer time rolls on the flea tour .. its not a blues song guys

back in the day tho dave used to play some really really cool stuff but his style has definately returned to being more metal less psychadelic .. which i blame on the fact that now he has to write the music ... that said pfp always make me happy and whenever i dig up an old pfp show it still sounds refreshing

i really like dave seems like a cool guy and i love spread and rhimorse but he was just never a HUGE part of the janes sound and from what i gathered dave once said that perry was his biggest influence on guitar .. as in perry would always try to get him to think outside the box and play solos that are not based around a blues scale ... thats why u get a mountain song solo that sounds like the prelude to tom morellos antics ... i think perry dramatically curbed daves metal tendencies back then

but with pete ... no curbing neccessary .. he already knows that metal squeals and fast fingers do not make good music unless ur in KIX .. thats why i dont cringe at pfp the way i do at say ocean size ... not for the song but for the squeals

pfp had some great songs .. i still would love to see that group now moreso than janes ... and i think pete can play janes very tastefully as it should be played ... and perry and pete write really well together ... dave and perry are both individually talented but i dont think they write well ... dont forget dave didnt really write much of anything in janes regardless of what the credits say.

i think perky plays way better either with avery or pete than he does with dave ... when those 2 get together the metal shit really starts to fly ... and i mean that in the time for the fans to duck fashion

plus martyn was really really good on bass as was watt ... oh well ... i do hope pfp make a proper double album ala physical graffiti ... i think that would cement perry as truly classic rock more so than janes simply because the production on janes is sooooo overly processed comercial metal ... songs great ,, production bad, cheezy ...

This is true TrevorAyer I can agree. The hard metal to me immature. Porno For Pyros soft song feel like warm summer breeze. Dave play good in Spread, Decon and Billy Corgan. He play soft guitar with Billy Corgan excellent.

I agree with some of what you're saying TrevorAyer but a lot of it not so much.
I guess I'll use the comparison that's been made for a longtime and bring Led Zeppelin into the mix.

Led Zeppelin's principal song writers were Page and Plant.
Jane's were Perry and Eric, and Porno For Pyros was Perry and Pete.
At least that's what I think.

I don't mean to lessen Bonham, Jones, Dave, Perk, or Martyn's importance or contributions to their bands.
I just think that in the past Perry has been his creative best when working with Eric or Pete as his partner.
Same as Page and Plant were at their best when they worked together.

I'm hopeful the guys are currently bringing out the best in one another and that we'll all be happy with the results.
The good news is hopefully we won't have to wait a whole lot longer to hear it. :please:

I don't want to argue your opinion with you because it's a waste of both of our time.
That said I will say that I really enjoyed Dave's playing recently and I don't get the "metal" comment.
Maybe I just wasn't listening for it and I can go back and listen to some shows from the last couple years but I just don't hear it. :noclue:

Feel free to point me in the right direction so that I can have a better idea of what you're talking about.

As for the production, it's already been confirmed that Bob Ezrin is not producing this time around.
Who is is an unknown at the moment but I think we can agree to withhold judgment until we've heard what they come up with.

Treveor and Hidefumi - were you exposed to P4P before Jane's?

I'm wondering if there is a crop of fans who are a bit younger than me that got turned on to Porno first and didn't really get much into JA until around the relapse. That comes w/o any judgment, I think it just shapes perspective and thus has a long-lasting impact. :noclue:
