Re: Was Jane's/Porno ever neo-glam?
Somehow...Perry was absolutely glam and early Navarro too. I'm thinking about his tight striped pants for example. Early Perry sometimes looked like some guy from hair metal scene but this was one of most elusive concept basically created by the band to mislead the definitions. Jane's was all and nothing in the meantime as like other bands of that era was but with special something more. They were proto grunge, funk alternative metal. They created "crossover" as Bowie created glam. Finding in Perry different personalities of rock tradition is simple but sometimes it's immediate and sometimes not: Steven Tyler (as alter ego of american hard rock singer), Bowie (for his sexual ambiguity, for his glam look), Lou Reed (for drug addiction), Freddy Mercury (for something garish Perry has in his wearing style), Jhonny Rotten (for provocative attitude), Iggy Pop (as frontman of the band on stage).......so i can't say Jane's was alternative metal like Primus for example. Two band mate with different approach and same meaning. I like considering Perry a sort of transposition of Frank Zappa looked by lens distortion more than Primus were. When you listen to Primus you can hear perfectly and clearly the influence heavy metal had on their music. This sensation fades along Jane's Addiction. Anyway guys....just to write something.....Hello again and hands up for Jane's Addiction!!

Re: Was Jane's/Porno ever neo-glam?
I was doing a little organizing of my tour ephemera and ran across a L.A. Weekly ad for the April 26, 1986 show and a flyer for May 20, 1986 canceled show that immediately reminded me of this topic.
This ad is for the April 26, 1986 Raji's show and comes from the April 25-May 1, 1986 L.A. Weekly.

The band then used that L.A. Weekly ad in the flyers they made for the canceled May 20, 1986 show at The Troubadour.

So early on there were people who felt they were glam and the band using that in the flyers they made leads me to believe they liked the categorization / description.
