I've read the article 2.5 times now and everyone's posts as well and I just want to share a thought or two.
This is just my opinion so please don't flame me if you should disagree.

First off whether by design or not Perry was the band's leader, figurehead, and mouthpiece.
Back in the day he was put on a pedestal by the fans and the media alike.

I have always been of the opinion that it took all four members of the band to make it what it was but have also felt that Perry received the lion's share of the credit for whatever success the band achieved.

Certainly he deserved recognition for his song writing skills and stage presence but he didn't do it on his own.
At the end of the day he had what was arguably one of the best rhythm sections since say Led Zeppelin seeing as they were so often compared to them and a fine fucking guitarist to boot.

I don't think anyone who posts here (although some lurk) was in the room when these guys were crafting the songs we all love so much and furthermore I doubt anyone was privy to the band's discussions be they good or bad either.

I guess what I'm trying to say is we just don't know all the facts and it's so easy for some to assign blame based on their opinions when they don't have said facts.

The last thing I want to say is this although I'm not 100% sure exactly how it goes.
This is in regard to Perry and the beating he's been taking over the past several years in some corners of the www.

Again I'm not 100% certain I've got this right but you'll get the jist of it.

When you climb to the top of the tallest mountain should you fall it will surely be the furthest.

:soapbox:
Basically I enjoy music & art.
I know it moves ME when I get goosebumps, a tear in my eye, tap my feet,
or the feeling "WTF, that was a wild ride let's do it again, and again." :yeay:

All I am really saying is that, as long and it does any of the above [be it book, film, music] let it out.
At the end of the day I want the again & again feeling.

It is entertainment, sometimes life changing or sometimes has me go back to an oldie but a goodie. ;)

My entertainers will always be:

Rolling Stones
John Zorn
Jane's Addiction
Melvins
Mike Patton
Black Crowes

Robert Mapplethorpe [R.I.P.]
Andres Serrano
Mick Rock
H.R. Giger

John Walters
George Lucas
Martin Scorsese
Tim Burton
Chuck Palahniuk

They have all at one time went out of the genre they are known for [not always for the best].
In those moments I have to thank the artist because it usually turns me on to something new. :reading:

Keep creative, I'll probably buy the product. [...and the deluxe version 20 years later]

IMO, God is dead, not a Dad.
Maybe that will change in October.
:noclue:
