"Curiosity Kills" ansd "I'll Hit You Back" make me want to shake it!!!!
Actually C K has a little bit of bass that resembles NIN "Ruiner" around the 2:40 mark...SLIGHTLY!!
Perry sounds amazing through and through...."Splash a Little Water on It"!!!!
What do I know...I listen to "Hyperleak" for months straight. I still like the flow in the order of songs of that production. Especially loved the drums in "True Nature", still puzzles me as to why it was changed.
I'm glad I got mine last night @ 11:11 via itunes!!!!!!!!!!!! : )
What should I drink my microphone or my Tequila????????

Not to kill it for the likers, but I'm with ya, Soj....where the hell is Dave on most of these songs?
Plus, if they were trying to emulate the Radiohead sound as claimed...they didn't even come close, IMHO.

Yeah, trying not to rain on the likers parade. Styles?...hearing Edge/Muse/Coldplay etc...texture with a slick mod production :( I don't want to keep dragging EA back into this but I kinda know what he was shooting for and it's a shame more of a compromise wasn't met. I still feel they could've reproduced some amazing shit together. Let me just leave it with this quote, it pretty much nails it for me:

"I don't get it: where's the danger, the thrills, the tripped-out psychedelia?? The intimate folk touches, the fierce metal runs, the hypnotic tribal drumming? The sense that the band would take you to the very edge and then jump over the cliff with you? This new album sounds overly slick, commercial, trendy, mid-tempo, so-so, *bland*. The songs just aren't there and the sound is uninspired. Navarro isn't even trying. They just sound like any other slick LA band now, it's not Janes at all."

(once again, enjoy it likers, not trying to start anything, no really)

Hi there to all of you.....Sojourner, I invite you kindly to give more attention to this record considering it like a something new. IOnce a time Lou Reed said: if an artist should always look to the past, everything he does, it would be already dead. Jane's Addiction have never missed a shot and they don't expect 8 / 9 years to make a crap :)

so....finally the new jane's addiction album is out, i bought the cd yesterday at the price of 14,99 euro and the guy of media store told me that the album was already in the store before the 18 october! what can i say? i have played the album a few times and i like it! but something discordant with me. for the first the general sensation is that this is not a real jane's addiction new album but a sort of new perry farrell solo album with the collaboration of the rest of the band mates. the leggendary drumming of stephen perkins it's completely missing and Dave Navarro seems to have conformed his guitar style with other, even if some guitar parts are really interested for me. At the second time or third time or four, the album starts to sound a little bit different and it seems going on the reversal direction of Strays. When the previous one was an explosion of sound and energy, the new great escape artist is really more reflective and relaxing, and keep under the weighted control the energy of the band and his sonic explosion. Something there's and something not but i'm happy and satisfied! The new album confirmed the band able to change the direction with a thin but consistent stylistic variation without forgetting what they has been until now. if i can remember exactly some of my favourite could be

Twisted Tales
Underground
I'll Hit You Back

ps: there's some opportunity the band will come in italy?

Listened to the whole album when it was streamed live on iTunes and I was hooked after I heard 'Underground' then I realized they got me again because the rest of the music blew...
I know I shouldn't compare but just listen to 'Then She Did...' & 'Three Days' then immediately aftewards listen to TGEA and you'll see. Its a sleepy album and sounds like Satellite Party shit.
Eh...

Your teeth may be sparkly, but you might want to get your ears checked out for wax buildup. Aside from Perry's vox, TGEA doesn't sound a thing like Satellite Party.

this is obvious, but even strays or kettle whistle material sounded like nothing's Shocking or Ritual. surely everyone has their own way of feeling, but one thing is certain, Jane's addiction are really different from their early days and it's normal but there's nothing new here. if you compare jane's addiction with other band of that period you certainly find some positive things. in their own way they evolved and look forward. taking metallica and compare what they do today with what they did in the past, different album, but always the same sound and style (of course, little exception always there) take primus, same shit. from tales to the punchbowl until today? a degrading path. and red hot chilli peppers? after all jane's addiction still have the same important vital energy, and they aren't stuck on their old position. I can imagine Perry like he should be in the ninenties and his music too. that's all, and we can understand listen to the album today. not tomorrow or yesterday. No one of this songs sounds like the stupid coldplay. In the album there's just only few moments that remember exactly something else, Broken People similar to Jesus and mary chain and pixies, and the common intro of Splash a little water on it, reminds Massive Attack. The rest of the album is own of who has done it. No Muse, and the rest of these bands. Obvious, the sound is built on these new trends cause these are the most correct comparison terms. but the songwriting is different, the importance to do something in music is different, the band is different. We are in 2011 not in 1991. Some Satellite party here, i have to agree with you, i hear them when i play the record think about something else, but when i trap the music inside of me i feel so close what the artist wanted to do and the album sounds different. approach. everyone has their own.

ps: however it was also right to expect something more

Ok it's not bad- I'm glad Perry did the art too. The music is more interesting than Strays- I just listened to Strays & it's BLAND! I like some of it still but eh- & i don't worship Avery (as a person) he's obviously got some issues - I'd call it mental. God bless Perry but this cosmic love story shut is lame! Not one song has a tribal feel and Navarro changed his style. I like Chaney but they should have written with him- cause overtime you develop chemistry that could get interesting results. Overall very poppy, catchy but not worthy of JA.

Mmmmmmmmmmm! I've held off listening to the album until tonight. Alone, uninterupted, with a bottle of rum. It starts off with the familar JA sounds but is missing that edge that got me into Jane's many years ago.

I tried to pinpoint what it is that's missing and it boils down to 2 things.
Perrys voice - The majority of the time it's either spoken word or he's crooning! There isn't that angst and anger in his voice, which isn't a surprise considering his age and where he's at in life.
Dave's guitar sound - It lacks that bite and seems too far back in the mix.

I didn't expect much from this album and unfortunately I didn't get much. Don't get me wrong, musically and production wise it's a great rock album but that's not what i expect from JA. It's the reason I never got U2!

Sadly I don't think I'll be listening to this album again.

The saving grace is the bonus disk! And there live performances!

RIP JA
