yeah, i'm in definite denial... i'm trying to recall a comparable situation with another band, with a different member working on new songs while an original member is touring, with no real confirmation on what's happening... very weird.
another thought is that maybe eric was under contract (or that lineup was under contract) to perform the shows they did, and that was that, and australia is simply eric fulfilling his contractual obligations to the band before going his own way. remember that these aussie gigs were rescheduled, and maybe that's to blame for the weird overlap of writing without eric before touring WITH eric.
either way, i'm upset... i really hoped it would stick with eric, and i believe they could have made incredible new music. i also really wanted to see a jane's-only show in a smaller venue, and that's looking unlikely, at least with the original crew. maybe they'll play a couple small venue farewell shows with eric before moving forward with someone new.
another thing - if embrace the darkness is a farrell-navarro-avery-perkins written track, it'll be interesting to see if it is credited that way if it sees release in the future. i was looking through the kettle whistle booklet the other day, and i'd forgotten that the track kettle whistle was credited to farrell-navarro-perkins-flea, when we all know that track was written with eric and played live as early as 86/87. flea definitely changed the bass part on the KW version, but i was surprised eric didn't get a co-write on a track that he surely contributed to.
random thoughts, sorry to ramble.
