Who would've ever thought that one of the world's premier music events could become a food lover's paradise?
Certainly not me, but the city's culinary elite flocked to Graham Elliot Bowles' eponymous resto Monday to applaud the gastronomic lineup of chefs participating at this year's Lollapalooza.
Think VERY upscale Taste of Chicago.
The Southern's chilled Gulf shrimp with heirloom tomatoes, summer peaches and cocktail sauce.
Some of the local stars included "Top Chef Masters" contestant Tony Mantuano (Spiaggia) as well as Paul Kahan and Donnie Madia (Big Star, Blackbird, Avec), to name a few.
Last year, Bowles was commissioned to cook for alt rock band Jane's Addiction. Frontman Perry Farrell (and founder of Lolla) was so impressed that he decided to partner with him in 2010 to make Lollapalooza a foodie's (and music groupie's) dream.
Billy Dec owns Sunda and Rockit Bar & Grill, which will be participating at Lollapalooza.
Bowles was tapped to become the first-ever culinary director of "Chow Town," the fest's own food court, but decided to take it to the next level. He solicited Chicago's best and brightest to participate, and the culinary lineup is definitely to die for.
To give you a taste of what will be served, chew on this: Kuma's Corner will be serving miniature portions of its famous Kuma Burger, which is topped with smoked bacon, cheddar and a Sunny Side Up egg.

Also, Bowles' own whimsical venture will whip up its signature truffle popcorn with grated Parmesan cheese, black pepper and fresh herbs; and Big Star plans to serve sope de panza, made with pork belly, tomato-guajillo salsa and black bean app.
Other participating restaurants include Bleeding Heart Bakery, more cupcakes, Blue 13, Elate at The Hotel Felix, Franks 'N' Dawgs, Hoosier Mama Pie Company, Metropolis Café, The Smoke Daddy Rhythm and Bar B Que, Sunda and The Southern.

So are you hungry yet? Even if you're not a fan of this year's music headliners, Lolla's ticket price just might be worth it to sample star dishes from these star chefs . . .
