No problem faerieb.
I asked Etty all the questions you posted and they were very much appreciated by me as they were all direct questions for her.

That part of the interview will be up sometime next week. ;)

O and this --> :inspiration: is me 100%.
It made me laugh when I saw it earlier today.

EDIT: I spoke to soon.
I think I missed your Flash Mob question but I definitely asked the other two.

SR wrote:The idea for one original song to contribute for the set is brilliant.

It makes perfect sense and doesn't seem to be contrary in any way to unsavory motives that might be ascribed to the reunion tours.

What a great way to restore some of the lustre to the set at the twilight of Jane's and leave the bluster OUT.

Next up.....the book.
I was so stoked when Etty said that.
And then my heart sank when she said Eric is reluctant. :(

My fingers are crossed that it comes to pass.

Mike: I don’t know if you remember a while back I emailed you. My friend Shawn (last name withheld) and myself we got… found on ebay they’re the Marc Grave reels from the Words and Music session. It was just Dave and Perry there and they…

Etty: Yeah. I do remember reading about that.

Mike: Alright well I sent you guys that version of Classic Girl that’s never been released. I think that it’s definite… must be on the Box Set. People have got to hear that.

Etty: Yeah.

Mike: It’s in very, very few traders’ hands because Shawn and myself have the reels and we’re not letting anybody have it.

Etty: (Laughing)

Mike: Well when you spend money on stuff like that… you know and it’s something that’s not out there for everybody… you know traders usually trade something that’s rare for something else that’s rare. But in this instance I… you know me and Shawn had talked about it and I told him I was going to be talking to Perry and that I was going to offer the reels to him in case they wanted to use it on the Box Set.

Etty: I think that’s something definitely that they’re interested in and also we um… I would definitely so it’s… I’m sorry. It’s the um… it’s Classic Girl and it’s an outtake you say?

Mike: It’s a… they were in the studio doing an interview for the… that they ended up using for the Words and Music promo for Nothing’s Shocking.

Etty: O OK.

Mike: And they did two songs acoustic in the studio. Just Dave on guitar and Perry singing… It’s the session that Perk and Eric got the directions to the wrong studio so they never showed up… they never made it there.

Etty: (Laughing) Of course they did.

Mike: The other song they did was City and that’s been released on Kettle Whistle but to be honest with you what we have sounds better than what was released on Kettle Whistle. I think if I’m not mistaken what they ended up using on Kettle Whistle for the version of City was dubbed off the master reels onto cassette but that’s all they could find.

Etty: O but you’re saying that you have the actual masters instead of a copy of it? That’s what you’re saying right?

Mike: Correct. Correct. They’ve been baked; taken to a professional studio and transferred already. Like I said Shawn and myself would love to see that end up on the Box Set.

Etty: Wow. Yeah you know I’ll absolutely write an email in and let Perry know.

Mike: I can send the song again if you want? The mp3 of it if you want… just so...

Etty: I think you did send it to me once didn’t you?

Mike: Yeah I’m positive I did send it to you here a few months back but like I said I can send it again.

Etty: Let me see if I can pull it up. Hang on.

Mike: It’s funny because… I don’t know if it’s on what I sent you I might have cut it off there at the end but Perry says “That wasn’t too good”.

Etty: Awe! (Laughing)

Mike: Then they end up doing City.

Etty: Right.

Mike: To me it’s great! It sounds awesome.

Etty: Right.
Please no emails or PM's regarding these reels or anything about them.
Unless your name is Perry Farrell, Etty Farrell, Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins, Dave Navarro, and / or you work for Rhino Records.
Hopefully this will get used on the Box Set.

If anyone wants Eric to consider being part of a future Janes Addiction Reunion, I might suggest throwing in some encouragement at his blog:

http://ericavery.blogspot.com

Remember, one of the reasons for his disillusionment with Janes Addiction was his perception of not being given enough credit for his input and contribution to the music.

My guess is that he might change his mind if he heard enough kind support and recognition from his fans

Etty: I’m sure but that’s my opinion. I don’t think Jane’s should come back with another bass player. I think Eric should be on board and this is completely my thinking here. In a couple of years I think Jane’s may be eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Something like that?

Mike: 2012 I think it is. I did the math just recently.

.
I think everyone agrees that the next time Janes gets together it should be ONLY with the original members...I think its a must.

2012 ill be uhhhggggg i think 38?? buuuuttttttt.......rock n roll HOF is only an hour away!!!! :P

as long as i dont have to wait that long to see Perry again

Mike: When I talked to Perry back in August. When I interviewed him after the Mr. Smalls show he said there were some difficulties with Capitol Records as far as them being on board for any outtakes. You know Strays era outtakes for them to be able to use them on the Box Set. Has that been resolved?

Etty: You know what I am not sure because that really is not my department.

Mike: OK.

Etty: I mean I know a lot of the legal stuff. I’m not sure if that ever got resolved.

Mike: OK.

Etty: I’m sure it did though because if Rhino is working on it. Then between Capitol and Rhino they probably worked something out between them.

Mike: OK hopefully because...

Etty: If they did they wouldn’t… I mean they certainly wouldn’t keep us posted on every single thing you know.

Mike: I know Perry seemed kind of bummed when I was talking to him about it. That the songs would just sit in a vault and rot.

Etty: I know, I know but sometimes… yeah we’ll see I don’t know. Nobody… we have yet to receive an update on that.

Thank you Mike for all this fantastic material!

By the way I personally think that expecting from someone the same things he was doing 20 years before is a kind of masturbation. I hope Jane's will make a comeback, and I hope they gonna make it soon!
And all the energy will come out, in a way or in another.
:please:
