"Three Days"
http://spinearth.tv/report/janes-addict ... e-festival
It's been almost 20 years since Jane's Addiction released "Ritual De Lo Habitual", widely believed to be one of the best rock albums of all time. It predated Nirvana's "Nevermind" by a year and would set the tone for rock and roll for the next decade. Considered to be the favorite track by many fans, "Three Days" is epic in it's length and sonic span.

The band broke up shortly after touring in support of the album and would not get back together until a brief tour in 1997 with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist, Flea. In 2001, they teamed with Porno for Pyros bass player, Martyn LeNoble for the album, Strays, (LeNoble would be replaced by Chris Cheney in 2002) but the reformed group would only last until 2004 and would never quite equal the edginess of the original line up.

Recently, Jane's has reformed again, this time with their founding bass player, Eric Avery, onstage to play the parts within the spirit they were written. Of all of Jane's Addiction's songs, perhaps none is more indicative of what was missing since 1991 than "Three Days".

SPIN Earth was in Istanbul for the Rock N Coke festival and we're proud to bring you a little taste of what Jane's fans have been missing the last 19 years. The video was taken with a small, hand-held video camera and is not Hollywood quality. But, hey... It's front row Jane's!

SPIN Earth sat down with Perry Farrell after Jane's Addiction thrilled fans in Istanbul during the Rock'N Coke festival, Turkey's largest music event of the year. (Interview below is condensed and summarized).

SPIN Earth: Why did you come to Istanbul?
Perry Farrell: I was curious, and I wanted to see what it's all about, so we came to play here. I'm glad we did.

SE: Why?
PF: I was a little reserved about the idea, I didn't know what to expect. But I believe in tolerance and understanding, so here we are in Turkey. I'm blown away by it. The crowd was great tonight - they are youth culture wanting to be a part of the world. Tonight they got to experience more culture.

SE: Talk more about that, if you will.
PF: Music changed the world, and it still does. The youth here wants to experience some change too, that's true everywhere. We brought some culture here, and they got to see it and feel it for a couple days. There was great energy from the crowd tonight. It was building from curiosity at the start, on up through big energy by the end. If we do our job well, you can see the indoctrination, you can see people get more into it. That happened here.

SE: How do you make that connection work?
PF: I use sarcasm and humor to connect, along with the music of course. You could see it working tonight- we did connect, in both directions.

SE: Any final thoughts on being here in Istanbul?
PF: Worlds are colliding. Everyone can have a point of view, and do their own thing. It's all good, I support it and am glad to be a part of it. A lot of tolerance is a good thing for everyone. I definitely plan to come back to Turkey.

SE: We can't part without mentioning Lollapalooza, which you are behind, and where Jane's Addiction will also play.
PF: We're taking it to the next level - you need to see it this year. Speaking of what's happening in the world, we'll have an electronic/DJ area this year that's fully renovated and ready to go. We'll have new LED screens everywhere so more people can see more. I was talking to Depeche Mode - they are very excited about the festival this year. And so is Jane's Addiction - you know, you'll get some surprises from us this year, something very special!

SE: See you there, and thank you.
PF: Thanks.
