I'm a huge Kinks fan and respectfully disagree with you saying it's "shockingly lame".
To each their own and all that but I really think that's kinda harsh.

While not every artist or band lends their songs or talents to products, in this day and age it's very common place and I see no reason Dave shouldn't be able to do something like this.

I'm sure Dave has bills to pay just like the rest of us and I'd much rather he pick up his guitar and do something like this as apposed to getting a 9 to 5 job someplace.

I'm looking forward to hearing the complete song at some point in time.
Hopefully they'll make it available for folks to download or purchase.

The primitive recording equipment and background noise/tape compression in the Kinks recording give it a character that cannot be reproduced. And when someone tries to record it , especially for a car commercial, it is Uber lame... And Dave will probably be the first one to admit that.
