November 27, 1988 - 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis, MN

I've been looking for a confirmation item for this show for a long time and finally found this.

Image

I know the print is a little on the small side and I've sent a email and a message to the owner trying to get a larger scan of it but as of now I have yet to hear back from him.

The calendar raises the question of Jane's possibly preforming not only on the 27th but on the 26th as well.

This however seems improbable when you look at the tour schedule.

11/23/1988 - Cabaret Metro, Chicago, IL
11/24/1988 - Mabel's, Champaign, IL
11/25/1988 - Cabaret Metro, Chicago, IL
11/26/1988 - 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis, MN
11/27/1988 - 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis, MN
11/28/1988 - Wally Gators, Madison, WI
11/29/1988 - Union Ballroom, University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI
12/01/1988 - Club Eastbrook, Grand Rapids, MI

Even if you move the unconfirmed Mabel's show from the 24th to the 22nd it would still mean the band did five shows in five nights and I find that highly unlikely.

Interestingly enough this site I found that lists like every show played at First Avenue / 7th Street Entry has nada on Jane's for November of 1988.

Hell they don't even list the bands show at First Avenue on March 12, 1989.
The only mention of a Jane's show they have is for the show December 2, 1990 at First Avenue.

So last night I was able to find out the correct date of the Mabel's show.
You can read about that here: http://forums.janesaddiction.org/viewto ... f=8&t=2380

Anyway the itinerary for the dates surrounding these two shows in Minneapolis now looks like this:

11/23/1988 - Cabaret Metro, Chicago, IL
11/25/1988 - Cabaret Metro, Chicago, IL
11/26/1988 - 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis, MN

11/29/1988 - Union Ballroom, University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI
11/??/1988 - Unknown Venue, Pittsburgh, PA
12/01/1988 - Club Eastbrook, Grand Rapids, MI
12/02/1988 - Mabel's, Champaign, IL
12/03/1988 - Bogart's, Cincinnati, OH
12/04/1988 - St. Andrews Hall, Detroit, MI
12/06/1988 - Peabody's Down Under, Cleveland, OH
12/07/1988 - Peabody's Down Under, Cleveland, OH
12/08/1988 - The Diamond, Toronto, ON, Canada
12/10/1988 - T.T. the Bear's, Cambridge, MA
12/11/1988 - T.T. the Bear's, Cambridge, MA
12/12/1988 - Living Room, Providence, RI
12/14/1988 - Cat Club, New York, NY
12/15/1988 - 9:30 Club, Washington, DC
12/16/1988 - Theatre of Living Arts, Philadelphia, PA
12/17/1988 - Theatre of Living Arts, Philadelphia, PA - Postponed Until 02/20/1989

That my friends is one brutal leg of a tour.
We have confirmation of all the above dates with the exception of the Pittsburgh show which we're still trying to nail down an exact date for and at this point the postponement of the 12/17/1988 show is based on fan memory.

Not counting the unconfirmed Pittsburgh show or the postponed Philly show the band played nineteen shows in a span of twenty-four days!

This leg of the tour saw the band play a string of five shows in five nights (11/25 - 11/29) and a string of four shows in four nights (12/1 - 12/4).

I'm still hunting for the article where Perry complains about the grueling touring schedule and I'll post it here once I track it down but it's really little wonder he complained when you look at that schedule.

The bottom line and the reason for my post is that after speaking with helicine we've decided to add the show on 11/26 to the database and have done so.

Any questions or comments?

I guess I'm just surprised by these four shows in four nights and five shows in five nights occurrences but I was looking over the gig list and the instances I posted about aren't the only instances of this occurring.

During the time in 1988 when Jane's were opening for Iggy and The Ramones there is one four shows in four nights instance and one five shows in five night instance.

Four in four

09/19/1988 - Newport Music Hall, Columbus, OH - Opened for Iggy
09/20/1988 - Bogarts, Cincinnati, OH - Opened for Iggy
09/21/1988 - Syria Mosque Ballroom, Pittsburgh, PA - Opened for The Ramones
09/22/1988 - Royal Oak Theatre, Royal Oak, MI - Opened for Iggy

Five in five

10/27/1988 - The Boathouse, Norfolk, VA - Opened for Iggy Pop
10/28/1988 - Hammerjacks, Baltimore, MD - Opened for Iggy Pop
10/29/1988 - The World, New York, NY - Headliner
10/30/1988 - City Gardens, Trenton, NJ - Headliner
10/31/1988 - Beacon Theater, New York, NY - Opened for Iggy Pop

All of the above shows are confirmed with the exception of the 10/31 show which is in part based on fan memory.

Anyway I just find this touring schedule to be insane and wanted to share it.
Now I'm gonna look again and see if I can find the quote from Perry I'm thinking of. :headscratch:

I was at the second night in Minneapolis. FANTASTIC show. Opener was a local band called Morticia, they were awful, lead singer was rolled out in a coffin. Lots of fake blood and amateurish goth. Ouch.

It had snowed like 2 feet, Navarro came out in a full length white fur coat with a Russian style fur hat that matched. Eric was in only his underwear, had flame orange hair. Opener was Coming Down the Mountain, if memory serves, the sound was notably HUGE for such a small room. Not loud, but HUGE. They had old-school film projectors propped around the small stage for parts of the light show. At a couple points, Perry hung from the rafters over the crowd singing.

One of my favorite memories at First Ave/7th Street. I waited outside in line all afternoon, and we were so coated with snow by the time I got in that the folks at the venue took pictures of us (we looked like alien snow people), and they gave us hot chocolate to warm up. I was about 4th in line, so I scored a seat at the rail they used to have just behind the sunken pit dancefloor. That place was pumping and bumping by the end of the night.

Great memories.

Actually, the opener was Up the Beach, as you have posted here elsewhere. Details are hazy.
