Perry's melodies

I was at my local library checking out different music from different cultures and I came upon some traditional Jewish music. A lot of the melodies are directly related to Perry's vocal melodies. . . . just not in the rock genre.
Has anyone encountered this yet . . . or is it my imagination. Thoughts?

Yeah . . a bit.
I call them pitch bends (which they aren't truly) but examples:
When he sings: "Comin down the MOUNT-AIN
the notes for MONT-AIN
-strange choice of notes for a melody.
one of many CHILD-REN EN . . those are strange choices for notes as well.
It just seems strange he would come up with an entirely "new" melody style. At first I thought he was singing in a "mode" (Aeoleon? Mixolideon? etc). I think it comes from somewhere but don't know where. I've never heard anyone use these types of melodies. Ocean Size has those "bends" too. . . or "choice of notes" if you prefer.
I've been trying to pin this down since 1987!
Maybe he did indeed invent a sound all his own. . . . !
