Jane's Addiction greatest hits live

I've had this idea for a long time.
I want to make some sort of celebration to the band we all love, in spite of everything.
I think we can safely assume that JA, when they're on fire, they're one of the better live bands out there. Recordings of these JA shows are plenty about.
I'm also sure that all of you had a feeling of "oh my fucking god, this is so good" while listening to a certain live song on a certain boot.
Well, why don't we bundle our powers and make a compilation of what we, as JA fans, think are the best live performances of each particular song.
Adding, we could also make some sort of ideal setlist type thing, starting with what we think is the best opener, and obviously ending with what we think is the best closer.
I don't want to turn this into a discussion of what songs should be included in the setlist, so EVERY JA song can be on the setlist. If anyone has a good Just Because, or Underground or whatever, it can be included in the setlist. Obviously there is no time limitation. Also, Duff, Martyn, Flea, Chaney, ... can be in the band.
Let's also keep it listenable, and include only very good audience or sbd recordings.
I was also thinking, since there are some people here handy with mastering and all that, let's segue one song into another, with some applause or a perryism mixed inbetween, and the total mastered and levelled out, so the thing can be listened to as a whole.
So, come on guys, let's make a group effort out of this, we can discuss, but no bitching or arguing, just a celebration to one of the best live bands in the world.

So far, we came up with this:
San Francisco (as intro)

Mountain Song
1%
Kettle Whistle - 01/31/1987 – King’s Hall, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA (Love Junkies boot)
Suffer Some - Roxy 86?
Pig's in Zen - 03/04/1989 – Barrymores, Ottawa, ON (Skin and Bones boot)
Obvious
Standing in the Shower - one from the JAFT shows?
Ocean Size
---------------------------
Of Course - Live Irvine Meadows - 7/24/1991

wish I was a couple more semesters in to my music degree. I'd love to take on the mastering part of this project. I could always try once you get everything together and final.

you've gotta include something from the 10/1/86 Club Lingerie show
also, the 'birkenstock incident' performance of ANR... while good, has been released so many times I kind of feel like a different excellent performance could easily take its place. I guess my gut feeling overall would be to use recordings of great performances that haven't been released already - so that'd boot out Milan as well, etc.

Funny you should mention that Club Lingerie show, I was just listening to that show.
Yeah, I agree, about the Aint no right, I didn't want to use anything from the palladium show, but it just sounds so powerful. But ok, it's out
Milan hasn't been used that much, has it?
I also thought of including this:
Jane's Addiction - 1989.03.04 - Barrymore's, Ottawa, CA (Alt. Source) - 06 - 06. Standing In The Shower...Thinking
Had A Dad 20 2 1989 Theatre Of Living Arts
Pigs in Zen (Cotton Club Atlanta) (has Blood rag)
Maybe we can use the aint no right from Lingerie?

I also wanted to NOT use two songs from the same show, so still have to puzzle

I tried this several years back with mixed results and may even still have the CD's around here somewhere.
I'm not trying to discourage you but mine wasn't something I listened to much after spending the time I spent putting it together. I think the reason for this was the volume level fluctuations from song to song? I see you want to address this so that will probably make this much more listenable.
What I did was include one live version of every song from the original line-up and I didn't use anything that has been officially released. So on my comp there wasn't anything from Strays. I also only used audience recordings in an attempt to make it less jarring from song to song.
I'll add some song suggestions later today or tomorrow but in the meantime here's a correction and suggestion.

I posted this information almost a year ago but this show actually took place on January 29, 1987 not the 31st.

Seek out the non bootleg version or this show. It sounds a lot better IMO.

My 2 cents:
Kettle Whistle from 7/10/87 (Hands down)
Pigs n Zen, Mt Song, Trip Away from 11/13/86
Aint No Right, Three days from 12/19/90
Suffer Some, Summertime (Not live) but should be from Song List.

It's all subjective and we all have our personal favorites but I'd use Kettle Whistle from this show:
November 25, 1988 - Cabaret Metro, Chicago, IL
http://janesaddiction.org/tour/show/jan ... 11-25/355/
Both Ain't No Right and Three Days from 12/19/90 have been officially released so I wouldn't include them even though they're fantastic renditions. If I want to hear either of those I bust out the Box Set.
As for the demos of Suffer Some and Summertime Rolls, I think the fact that they're demos eliminates them from consideration based on Mescal saying he wants the best live versions for his comp but it's his comp and maybe he'll change his mind and agree with you. Although again both songs have now been officially released.
My vote for Summertime Rolls goes to the August 16, 1991 Lolla show. I know it's a SBD and I said I'd use only audience recordings but the "Happy summertime mother fuckers!" intro by Perry has got to be one of the best song intros ever.
