"JUSTICE TOUR 2008"

TOM MORELLO’S 7-CITY, 2-WEEK "JUSTICE TOUR"
SPOTLIGHTS LOCAL ACTIVISM AND
CELEBRATES SOCIAL JUSTICE THROUGH MUSIC

Each date will include a day of activism alongside partner organizations
and an evening of music with Morello alongside a variety of special guests including
Slash, Perry Farrell, Davey Havok of AFI, Boots Riley,
Shooter Jennings and others.

LOS ANGELES -- Tom Morello, the guitarist for Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave who plays firebrand folk guitar as The Nightwatchman, launches the Justice Tour in Los Angeles on April 15. The two-week outing stops in New York, New Orleans, Asheville, NC, Washington, DC and Boston before concluding with a May Day show in Chicago on May 1.

Each stop of the Justice Tour will include a day of activism to focus on a sphere of social justice in America: homelessness (Los Angles), safe, secure and affordable housing (New Orleans), a living wage (Asheville), peace and veterans care (Washington), affordable healthcare (Boston) and labor organizing (Chicago). In addition, Amnesty International’s TearItDown.org Campaign to Close Guantánamo and Morello’s own Axis Of Justice have joined as partner organizations throughout the tour. The itinerary also includes a previously announced show April 17 at New York’s Nokia Theater to benefit Road Recovery, a nonprofit that helps young people forge a future free from addiction.

"There has been much talk about change this election season, but real change must start with people, not politicians. No matter who is elected, we the people must create justice on the ground," said Morello, who will perform on the Justice Tour as The Nightwatchman.

Sharing the stage with The Nightwatchman will be different special guests on each stop of the Justice Tour. Among those who have signed on are Slash, Perry Farrell, Sen Dog of Cypress Hill, Davey Havok of AFI, Boots Riley of the Coup, Shooter Jennings, State Radio, Mike Einzinger of Incubus and Wayne Kramer. In addition, each stop of the tour will include a local special guest artist.

While the tour’s activism highlights the hard work that must be done to achieve social justice, its mood is celebratory. "Each night of this tour is going to be a freedom party," Morello said. "We are going to create a little bit of the world we’d like to see."

"Throughout American history, progressive change has always been driven by activists who blow the winds of social change," said Danny Goldberg, longtime activist and band manager and the author of How The Left Lost Teen Spirit. "Without such energy, even the most idealistic public officials cannot prevail against the self-interested partisans of the status quo."

Morello Trek To Feature Harper, Slash, Keenan

March 31, 2008, 6:00 PM ET

Katie Hasty, N.Y.
As was tipped here earlier this month, Tom Morello is once again combining politics and music on the road with his upcoming Justice Tour.

The long-time activist, who also performs under the Nightwatchman moniker, has tapped artists like Ben Harper, Slash, Perry Farrell and members of MC5 and AFI to play different dates, with each performance focusing on different spheres of social justice.

The Justice Tour kicks off April 15 in Los Angeles, which will spotlight homelessness and as partnered with Axis of Justice and People Assisting the Homeless. It continues to New York's Nokia Theater on April 17, the House of Blues in New Orleans on April 20, The Grey Eagle Tavern & Music Hall in Asheville, N.C. on April 22, the Black Cat in Washington, D.C., on April 24, Boston on April 28 and Park West in Chicago on May 1.

The New York show is a previously announced show benefiting Road Recovery and will feature Slash, Jerry Cantrell and Wayne Kramer of MC5.

While the tour's activism highlights the hard work that must be done to achieve social justice, its mood is celebratory. "Each night of this tour is going to be a freedom party," Morello said. "We are going to create a little bit of the world we'd like to see."

Boots Riley, Shooter Jennings and Maynard James Keenan from Tool are also confirmed to be taking part in the tour. Organizers in each market are determining the combinations of special guests, to be announced at a later date. Other causes supported on tour include safe and affordable housing, living wage, peace and veterans care, labor organization and affordable healthcare.

Morello described the goal of the events as "musicians, fans of music and grass roots activist organizations working together to fight for social justice. We tend to do that and have a great time, too. It'll be a cool variety of musicians going to different places and not only playing shows. It will benefit specific good causes, whether it's supporting anti-war efforts or supporting Iraq Veterans Against the War or repairing destroyed New Orleans."

The Nightwatchman recently contributed a track to the "Body Of War," double-disc benefit collection for Justice Tour partner Iraq Veterans Against the War.

I feel like I was either transported to Heaven or Mars tonight! Amazing show...just when you thought it couldn't get better another legend came out on stage! Tom Morello, Perry, Carl, Etty, Dave Navarro(!), Flea, Slash, Steve Vai, Stuart Copeland, Pete Yorn, Wayne Kramer, Travis Barker, Davey Havok, Jerry Cantrell, Cypress Hill, a killer Boston band that I'd never heard- State Radio! Insanity! Almost 4 hours of non-stop rock and JAMS that got everyone up and jumping.

Perry, Etty and Carl performed Here Comes Trouble, BCS and Stop! Then Dave and Flea came out for Mountain Song. I have a ridiculous amount of pics from tonight (of EVERYONE), but I have to crash for my day job, so here are two for now...in the next few days I'll put a bunch of others up in the share section.
