I have heard of a handful of those bands...of course Rhead/rage/nin....dr dog are from philly....g love...raconteurs (who just put out a solid record)
but the majority I's don't know...Perry still bringing the underground to the people! I don't know, maybe college kids are all about these bands....

I read an article that Philadelphia was actually considered as a the destination this year, obviously that didn't work out. If Philly had Penn's Landing in the shape that it should and deserves to be in, that would a fantastic location.

I hope who ever is going to the event has a wonderful time!!

Lollapalooza Last Band Standing contest returns

May 15, 2008

FROM SUN-TIMES STAFF REPORTS
Hundreds of bands will be performing at this year’s Lollapalooza concert festival — why not you?

Lollapalooza’s Last Band Standing contest — its annual online battle of the bands — is under way, and voting begins Monday. The multi-round, two-month campaign allows musicians to upload their performances to be judged by visitors to lollapalooza.com as well as panels that include Lollapalooza founder

Perry Farrell and members of The Recording Academy.

Last year, more than a thousand artists participated and 510,000 songs were streamed. Online voters cast 680,000 votes, resulting in wins — and Lollapalooza performance slots — for the Helicopters and Chicago’s own glam rockers the Shock Stars.

Competitors will be narrowed down to five finalists, who will convene at Chicago’s Double Door on July 30 to make their final stand.

A few others besides the two you mentioned have been added.
Lollapalooza adds bands to lineup

Your band could be one of them

May 14, 2008

Iron & Wine, Toadies, Saul Williams, DeVotchKa, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears and Wild Sweet Orange have been added to the bill for Lollapalooza 2008.

They'll join headliners Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, Kanye West and Nine Inch Nails at the annual festival, which is set to take place at Chicago's Grant Park August 1-3, as previously reported.

Lollapalooza has also announced the Last Band Standing competition, which gives bands the chance to earn a slot to play at Perry Farrell's festival.

Bands can now submit a video of themselves for fans to vote on. Online voting will take place May 19-June 29, with a celebrity judging panel weighing in on a later round. For additional information, visit Sonicbids.com/lollapalooza08

More Lollaplooza 2008 News | Late Night Shows Announced

filed under: festivals, news | tags: Lollapalooza

While we just posted the recently released schedule for Lollapalooza, there is more news coming out of Perry Farrell's office. I can just see him now -- writing emails, looking at balance sheets, calling meetings in the boardroom all while wearing a very tight, sequined suit.

All kidding aside, the festival has announced some officially supported late night shows. The Official Aftershows will take place Thursday through Saturday of the festival weekend, and they are all pretty solid and feature a really good mix of the smaller venues that Chicago has to offer. If you are planning on attending Lollapalooza from out of town, definitely check out one of these shows. Follow the jump for the bands and ticket info.

If you attended a different show each night, paying careful attention to hit the four major rock clubs in Chicago (Double Door, Metro, Empty Bottle and Schubas) and also the HOB and Congress Theater, you could definitely get a good feel for the Chicago live music scene, all in a matter of only three days! That's if you can pull yourself out the door after spending those super long days in the sun down in Grant Park.

I'll definitely be trying to hit the Rogue Wave/Dr. Dog show down the street from my apartment, but Saturday is more of a bind. And that Bloc Party/CSS/Does it Offend You, Yeah? show at the HOB does look quite tempting. That said, the second Chromeo announces an afterparty, it changes everything.
