You're going then I take it?
I can't imagine you looking for a room if you weren't but... :)

It looks like I'm going to make it for the first time in a few years.

I'm a little bummed about the date seeing as I'll be miss my 25 year high school reunion.

O well I did what Eric told me he did when he decided to tour with Jane's vs touring / supporting Help Wanted.

I asked myself where I'd have the most fun, Chicago or the reunion?
It made it an easy choice but I'd of loved to have seen some of the folks I haven't seen the past 25 years.

Who else is going?

Who Will Draw Lollapalooza’s Biggest Crowd? Site Offers Clues
7/27/09, 5:49 pm EST

The Lollapalooza Website launched an addictive new feature recently that shows how many people have added an artist on the lineup to their personal schedule, giving festival-goers an early indicator of how packed the fest’s most popular shows might be. With two weeks to go until Chicago’s main event, the leader is Kings of Leon, who will headline Friday night opposite Depeche Mode. So far, over 15,000 people have added KOL to their custom schedule, nearly 6,000 more than the Depeche crowd. Of course, this measure isn’t a perfect indicator of how things will go down in Grant Park, but it is a fascinating way to spend an afternoon.

So far, Saturday’s most scheduled artists aren’t even headliners Tool and Yeah Yeah Yeahs — but both TV on the Radio and the Arctic Monkeys have been pledged crowds over 10,000. (To the YYYs credit, they weren’t added to the schedule until last week, when they were recruited to replace the Beastie Boys.) And while festival founder Perry Farrell closes out Lollapalooza Sunday night with Jane’s Addiction, it’s possible he’ll be performing to a smaller crowd than the Killers over on the Chicago 2016 Stage, as the Killers’ attendees currently outnumber Jane’s (13,000 to 9,000). Among the most heated non-headlining races is the 6:30-7:30 p.m. block on Sunday, with Snoop Dogg currently out-populating Lou Reed, Deerhunter and a Vampire Weekend autograph session.

Want the small club feel at the big giant rock festival? A few artists on the schedule have yet to guarantee triple-digit fan attendance, all but assuring you a good spot in the pit. Not counting the child-geared Kidzapalooza stage, the artist with the least amount of confirmed attendees is Priscilla Renea, who so far has been penciled into the Sunday schedule of four people. Of course, playing in the same time slot as Dan Deacon, Airborne Toxic Event, Kaiser Chiefs and Gang Gang Dance doesn’t help. For more stats, even if you’re not planning on going to Chicago’s Grant Park on August 7th to 9th, check out the Lollapalooza Custom Schedule.

Perry Farrell Optimistic About the Future of Jane's Addiction
The reunited Jane's Addiction, featuring all four original members, have only two gigs left on the books -- this weekend at Lollapalooza and an appearance Halloween weekend at New Orleans' Voodoo Music Fest. But lead singer Perry Farrell isn't worried about the band's future. "We got along," he tells Spinner. "We found a way to find respect for each other. We'd go out there and we'd kick ass and people leave happy and so everybody wins and it's a good situation."

While no plans are set in stone, Farrell, who says of any future Jane's work, "I'm in, you can count me in," knows what he wants to happen. "I'd like to see us go way back to the days when we were actually rehearsing, when we had day jobs and had to find time to rehearse two or three nights a week and just start writing material," he says. "That would make me very happy."

Farrell is already getting one wish granted as he, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins and Eric Avery return to the Lolla stage he helped create for the first time since 1991. "When we joined back up early in the year, we went into meetings and had discussions on what we expected out of this," he recalls. "But when we went around the room and talked about our dreams and aspirations, what came out of my mouth was, 'What I see for us is returning to Lollapalooza and picking up where we left off in 1991, when that party was the party of 1991. I want to make this one the party of 2009.'"

And now that the fest is imminent and the band is ready to take the stage, Farrell has a promise for any fans that will be at Lolla Sunday night. "Jane's is going to put on is a show that we've been waiting 18 years to pull off," he says.

Perry Farrell Talks Lollapalooza, New Jane's Addiction Material
"We established ourselves as one of the great live groups on planet Earth this year."

In 1991, Jane's Addiction headlined the first Lollapalooza tour. Eighteen years later, the famed L.A. hedonists are set to return to the Lolla stage when they close out the fest's last night this Sunday, August 9, in Chicago's Grant Park. Perry Farrell, for one, is ready.

As the megafest's founder, producing partner, and artistic director, Farrell has got a lot invested in the three-day bonanza. Perry's Stage, his namesake club-style electronic music haven in the middle of the park, hosts DJ sets from Animal Collective, A-Trak, Hercules and Love Affair, Diplo, Simian Mobile Disco, and more this year. But for Lollapalooza 2009, he's especially relishing his role as a performer.

Still, nothing comes easy for Farrell's infamously volatile band. A slight cast of doubt was put over the reunion performance recently, when drummer Stephen Perkins suffered from an elbow infection, causing the quartet to cancel some Australian dates. Talking to us last week, Farrell went into (possibly too much) detail about Perkins' injury (complete with a photo!), what fans can expect from the Lolla gig, and if Jane's Addiction are considering working on a new album:

Pitchfork: So what's the deal with Stephen's elbow? Is he going to be OK for Lollapalooza?

Perry Farrell: It's crazy because, as we've been on tour, we've run into Depeche Mode, and Dave [Gahan] tore his calf muscle-- the exact same calf muscle that I tore. Then we hear that Adam [Yaunch] from the Beastie Boys has cancer, and we're just starting to think: "Wow, I guess it's that time of life for these guys to start falling apart a little bit."

Basically, Stephen swam in a pool in Greece-- and there's a lot of this fine white dust there. So if you have, like, a sore on your arm and you get it wet and the dust gets into it, you can get a staph infection. Steve's elbow started to flare up on the airplane home from Greece. He kept showing it to Dave [Navarro], saying, "Does this look OK to you?" Dave was like, "Yeah, just watch the movie." But when we got back, the thing grew to the size of a golf ball. So he went to a specialist, who said, "Look, I can't even give you antibiotics for this because you've just been in eight countries in 10 days-- you might have a flesh-eating disease."

He had to stay in the hospital for a couple days, which is hell for a guy like Steve Perkins. He was looking for a place where he could smoke his weed, but he just couldn't seem to get away with it. Finally, he was cleared and they drained his elbow. He e-mailed me and let me know that he's doing great-- we're ready to go, man.

Pitchfork: I feel like an elbow infection would be the last thing people would think of as a reason to derail this Jane's Addiction tour.

PF: I know, when they heard that somebody's arm got inflamed, they thought, "Well, it's got to be Dave or Perry's arm." [laughs] Wrong!

Pitchfork: Is the Lolla gig going to be noticeably different from your recent shows with Nine Inch Nails?

PF: Yeah. We're taking what we did on the NIN/JA tour and elevating the theatrical elements. The first and last time Jane's played Lollapalooza in 1991, I had a long list of demands. Among them were hot-air balloons-- which I still haven't gotten. But I also asked for a helicopter. And I may just have a helicopter this year. [laughs]

Musicians only get better with age, so we're emotionally in good spirits. People didn't count on us even finishing that tour, but we did and we actually got to know each other again after 18 years. We're actually looking out for each other now.

Pitchfork: With tons of other festivals popping up now nowadays, how do you keep Lollapalooza on the forefront of the circuit?

PF: For one thing we have a wet bar for artists and VIPs-- everyone else charges people backstage for drinks. We think about not only the patrons-- which is super important-- but how we can make the artist's experience one to remember. When I go to other festivals, I'm usually disappointed. I can't see other acts from a good vantage point and the backstage area's not that fun. You kind of feel like you're not that important after all.

But I learned a lot from people like [legendary rock promoter] Bill Graham, who would have a robe with your name on it and a bong waiting for you in your dressing room. Those experiences made me want to go back and play for Bill Graham.

Pitchfork: Are you guys planning on recording any new material soon?

PF: We haven't had a proper official meeting about it, but I feel that we established ourselves as one of the great live groups on planet Earth this year. Now we need to go in and get some new material. Because, as much as people love to hear the old songs, you need new currency-- it's musical currency. We just need to maybe spend a year rehearsing two or three times a week like we did when we were waiting to be signed. That's what I'm going to suggest to the guys and I have a feeling that's what we're going to do.
