Rumour: Jane’s Addiction to cancel Australian tour due to arm infection? Posted By Daniel Clarke
In possibly the most disappointing news for Aussie JA fans to date, there is an unconfirmed rumour floating around in media circles today that Jane’s Addiction might be canceling their Splendour in the Grass appearance and possibly all associated side shows.

A source close to the band has said that a certain member has an arm infection and is currently being treated in a hospital in the US. Having just finished their European tour, the band travelled home for a day of rest before heading down under. Again, all this is unconfirmed but if true puts a mighty damper on festivities in Byron this weekend…

I dont want to help spread rumors but I have a feeling from what ive read elsewhere this could be very true.

Jane's Addiction exit riles festival-goers

Samantha Turnbull

July 25th, 2009

NO last-minute tickets to Splendour in the Grass will become available this morning, even if disgruntled fans request refunds following the withdrawal of headline act Jane's Addiction.

The US band announced the cancellation of their Australian tour just 48 hours before they were due to perform at the festival at Byron Bay's Belongil Fields tonight.

The performance was cancelled before Jane's Addiction left US shores because percussionist Stephen Perkins has been admitted to the Infectious Disease Ward at Cedar's-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles for treatment of an infected elbow.

Lead singer Perry Farrell said: "I know how excited we were to come play in Australia, and how long the fans there have waited for this. I want everyone Down Under to know that we will come back as soon as we can."

Replacing Jane's Addiction will be Australian band The Living End, which resulted in a mixed response from festival-goers yesterday.

Tom Jackson, of Melbourne, said the band was not an adequate substitute.

"I am upset because one of the main reasons I came to the festival was for Jane's Addiction," he said.

"They could've done better than The Living End. They're a decent Aussie band but they had their day 10 years ago."

Gold Coaster Chelsea Mackenzie said she did not mind the trade-off.

"I'm glad Jane's Addiction pulled out -- I'd rather see The Living End," she said.

The festival's 17,500 ticket holders will have until 10am today to request a refund.

Festival producers announced yesterday this could be the last Splendour at Belongil Fields because of a NSW Government decision to take over approval of an application to move to Yelgun in the northern Byron Shire.

Splendour producers were quoted in this month's Rolling Stone magazine as saying one of the reasons they wanted to move was 'exorbitant' rents charged by Byron Bay accommodation providers.

Producers have also warned festival-goers to be mindful of their hygiene this weekend because of the swine flu threat.

A swine flu information page has been added to the festival's website.

Revellers should also be aware the police will again have sniffer dogs on-site to search for drugs.
