I don't get what those video's were supposed to be showing because they sound lousy. Sounds like Perk is tapping on the drums, I don't get it.

I don't know Javier.nausearockpig wrote:Face it, Jane's Addiction as we know it is dead. this partial re-animation over the past years has been just that: re-animation..
R.I.P.
Onwards? we'll see..
I wouldn't call the past two years a "re-animation" as you put it.
I would call it a reunion.
Either way I happy it came about and I loved the shows I saw.
I don't want to sound like a broken record but like I said before I'm sad things with Eric didn't work out.
The four original guys come from different planets as far as influences / writing it seems but when they made music together it was magic.
I wanted to see that again but it's not going to happen so I'm going to move on.
I like Strays and I'm confident the three remaining members can come up with music that equals or betters it.
Strays could have been better in some ways perhaps (different mixing choices / production) but the songs from that record sounded great live!
I don't want this to turn into a Strays thread but my point is I'm not ready to jump ship.
I'm remaining hopeful.
I hear the guys are entering the studio next week and have been busy writing.
Let's see what they come up with.
I'm curious enough to hang around and give it a listen.

To be fair both those clips are from a DVD called "Duff Mckagan Behind The Player" or something like that.esqfool wrote:I don't get what those video's were supposed to be showing because they sound lousy. Sounds like Perk is tapping on the drums, I don't get it.
I'm not 100% sure on the title and I'm just going by the youtube titles.
Anyway I would assume considering the title that the clips are him showing off his chops.
That to me explains Perk being a little lower in the mix.
I don't think it sounds lousy though.

Love me some

Don't get me wrong Mike, [ I think I was probably feeling jaded when writing that] I thoroughly enjoyed the reunion and I'm hoping to hear great new songs..Nothing's Shocking wrote:I don't know Javier.nausearockpig wrote:Face it, Jane's Addiction as we know it is dead. this partial re-animation over the past years has been just that: re-animation..

I should get over my "his voice isn't the same as it was back in the 80s and 90s" and move on...

I feel a little jaded myself truth be told.
I'll be 44 this year and I think Jane's were / are my generation's Zeppelin.
I thought back in the day that Perry & Eric were going to be the next Page / Plant or Lennon / McCartney.
You know be together forever and put out tons of great music.
Sadly things just didn't work out that way.
Perry's voice has definitely changed though but it's still distinctively his own.
He doesn't scream sing like he used to but it's still a very pleasing sound.
Someone else whose voice has changed a lot is Robert Plant.
By the time 1972 rolled around he couldn't sing like he did from 1968 - 1971 or there about.
His voice has continued to change over the years but his last release with Allison Krauss is outstanding.
Man it's funny that after all these years here I am comparing Jane's to Zep and Perry to Robert.

I think the Plant/Perry thing is fair...they both belted in a really high range...and effected....I keep thinking Perry is coming out of a rough patch...If ya watch Zeppelin clips from 75 then watch 77 you'll see what im talking about...Plant sounded really strong on the 77 tour...There is no reason ..if Perry works on it ...that he cant be better than ever...I think with getting older and singing is...ya dont stay in the same spot for too long...Hit the note hard and move on to the next...Im sorry to barge in here...jest wanted to add my 2 cents to this

Hey I'll be 44 this year as well, and JA have been part of my life since 1988. Last year in Poznan, Poland, when I saw them on stage for their first european concert, I couldn't believe Perry's voice changed that much... I was sad, even if the concert was good, and I got heavily drunk after the show. Man, it's the same for them and for us, getting older, and we must accept it.
What I don't understand is Eric coming back after long time and then leaving again... I didn't even want to know exactly what happened. But I believe that JA can still make good thing together, if we accept they'll never be the same as before, and if they find a new rock path to follow, maybe getting Inspiration from a new member.

Eric never promised anything more than giving it a shot..which he did..and 2009 was a fucking blast b/c of it..I think I saw 5 shows and each one was brilliant. Eric brought the balls back to the band...Thanks Eric!! But having said that...Even though he brought the balls I kind of think he's a puss!...Come on man..It's your band..Try and make some good music together..Oh well...Hopefully Perry Dave And Steve honor the legay better than Strays did..
I just hope it doesn't become Velvet Revolver..Otherwise I'm splittin too!
