Alternative Violence review...A Gateway to Peace...
As Pete set out on his mission to write and record "Alternative Violence" the world around us is in chaos. Never has there been more of a need for Alternatives to Violence than now. Through music and alternative outlets we could achieve this if the world were willing to give it a try.
I suggest they begin by listening to Peter's new album "Alternative Violence" ...I view it as a gateway to peace. The first Sonic Art release will hopefully inspire others to drop the labels and appreciate music as a whole. Why do people feel such a need to label themselves and their music...it's ok to like punk, rock-a-billy, surf-rock, jazz, blues, etc...it's ok to acccept that there are great sounds coming from artists of all different genres...it's ok to let your soul get enraptured and encaptured by the colors of all music...color rock. sonic art. alternative violence.
The record kicks off with an immediate emotional song, "Chasing Wind." It reminds me in sound of the John Lennon song "Mother"...it's moving, beautiful, soulful, and cuts right to the core of your gut. It was written from a gut-wrenching vision of a car crash that left a child lifeless, and a family childless. "Chasing Wind" cuts right to the core, but also uplifts you to keep moving on...don't just chase the wind in life...capture it...create with it...feel it.
"Fear of the Clean" is the second song and it pulls you in immediately with a staccato mouth beat and lyrics that sound as if they're being spoken in tongues. It may make you say, "What the fuck?" The guitar playing is hard, punk, and intense...and so is the message. At 1:43 into the song Peter unleashes a sound on his guitar that spirals into a face-shredding solo that makes you want to jump out of your skin and into the realm of the unknown. His voice is sexy, the guitar is hot...the package is complete. Welcome to Alternative Violence...we've just begun.
The third song on the album is one of my personal favorites, "Funny." Are you ever edgy, irritable or down because of jealousy and ignorance?...yes?...well this is the song for you! It doesn't matter what the rest of the world thinks, though, when you're getting your groove on! This song has an old-school bluesy-punk feel. It's not hard and in your face, it's more of a rhythm that sinks inside and makes you want to work for the good feeling inside of you...a groove that makes you move without a care...and a message that says, you do your thing and I'll do mine...and in the meantime we'll just play and refrain from preaching about it...and maybe we can meet in the middle somewhere...all backed by a smokin guitar lick!
"Gentle Bite" is next. This song will hypnotize you with the heavy breathing, the sexy voice, the hot lyrics, the intense scales...the entire illusion that is drawn up will send you into a trance-like state that will have you hitting the replay button.
The fifth song on "Alternative Violence" is a song called "Guilty." Beats made with Pete's mouth and the fast-paced rhythm like your heart racing has you feeling the pressure and mental angish of "Guilt" right from the intro. The pressure builds throughout until all at once the pressure is released, and it's over. This song leaves you wanting more...it's "Guilty" in an extremely fun way!
"I Beg You Please" starts with such a melodic introduction with Peter's sweet voice and soothing guitar. You get tricked into thinking it's going to be a slow love song. But, at 31 seconds into the song you get the most outstanding surf-soul-rock-punk-a-billy-like guitar that kicks in and you will get hooked and want him to play on through! I completely dig this song! It reminds me of Peter's days with K-38.
The seventh song, "It Was Just My Heart" was described by Jasper as having a sonic texture that percolates. I love this description! It's completely accurate. It grooves and makes you feel...the emotions are layered in...the happiness of finding peace with one, yet angst and hurt from another...trying to find the perfect medium and gateway to peace.
"Midnight Kiss" is hot and erotic. The first 1:06 is complete musical sex. It'll make you want to rip your clothes off and let your aggressions out. Then, it softens up as the guitar makes love to your ears. It takes you through a musical journey of meeting, hooking up, having wild-with-out-abandon sex, chillin afterwards for a bit, to leaving all in 2 minutes and 22 seconds.
The ninth song on this incredible work of art is "No One Really Loves." It's honest. The release of truth in this song gives a sense of freedom. The guitar speaks to you, and the gentleness of the music makes you listen to the message. Alternative Violence lives and breathes in this masterpiece done by the master of peace.
"Winter Music" is sonic sounds, heavy beats, micro notes and scales that will shatter your brain on the dance floor! Who needs designer drugs when there's music to fool you into thinking you're on them? Going to a rave? No? Well, listen to this and you'll feel like you're at one.
The last song on "AV" is "Give Me"...and that is just what you'll be saying after hearing this album! "Give Me" is another song that keeps your party going! Rave in your room with this one! "Give Me" has the perfect combination of sonic, electronic, and organic sounds...and it'll have you dancing your ass off!
Is that yours faerieb?
It took me a few times to get though it because I've been getting pulled in a few different directions lately but I really enjoyed reading that.
I've not been on Pete's site quite as much lately as I used to be and I don't think I managed to hear any of the new stuff when he put it up for preview.
I'm looking forward to checking this out.
"The quality of mercy is not strained, it dropeth as the gentle rain from heaven."
I'm going to have to wait to hear it until I pick up my new PC on the 24th.
Most of these tunes are going to be new to me because Pete only put them up for short previews.
I can remember hearing 75% or better of some of his more recent stuff prior to release date but I'll be dammed if all of these didn't sneak past me this time around.
I'm not going to let myself get to bummed out that I can't hear this stuff at the moment but rather I'm going to just look at this as a present under the tree that I'm not allowed to open yet.
Looking forward to it.

I finally grabbed this today and have given it two quick listens.
The songs are all over the musical road map as Pete has done on recent releases.
All of it is brand new to me and I don't want to say much more until I've had a chance to live with it for a while.
I will say that I'm enjoying it.
