Was Jane's/Porno ever neo-glam?

Has Perry Farrell ever written any songs influenced by glam rock? By glam, I mean Bowie, T. Rex, New York Dolls, etc. -- I'm not talking about '80s glam metal. A lot of '90s bands were called neo-glam (Placebo, Spacehog, Suede) and alt-rock bands like STP and Smashing Pumpkins went glam on songs like "Big Bang Baby" and "Here Is No Why" respectively. I'm making a neo-glam mix CD and want to include Jane's or P4P but don't know if any would fit. Any suggestions would be helpful. And is "Hard Charger" neo-glam or is the band just glammed out in the video? Thanks.

Here is no why is without a shadow of a doubt DEFINITELY NOT glam by any standard.

Does it sound like Ziggy stardust or Suede or T.REX? hell no.

hard charger is also NOT Glam... anyways, Glam was a bunch of dudes playing rock and roll dressed like women. It was more about the look. So why dont you put on a dress and strum a guitar if you want glam.

Interviewer: "Ok. And the sound of it is a little bit different from the Pumpkins of the past, it seems to me it has a real, not really classic rock styling, but it does seem to be..."
Corgan: "Um, a little glam...we always think of it as kind of glammy."

And regarding "Hard Charger," have you ever seen the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4pdOq7N ... re=related)? They're certainly dressed in glam outfits, especially Dave in his furry robe.

if there was ever a bunch of dudes dressed as women playing rock n roll its janes addiction ... perry wore dresses numerous times ... dave and eric and perry all made out on stage all the time .. tons of eyeliner ... appearance wise id say very glam .. music wise not so much .. they were too epic

Janes/Porno were NOT glam..Glam was a poppy sound in drag almost..NY dolls..Jane's was punk/hippytrippy/metal/ballstothewallrock...Not Glam.....

Good question and one that I've never considered.
To be honest with you I had to do a quick search to see exactly what's thought to be neo-glam.

After having done so and having looked over a list of bands / artists shoe-horned into that category, I say yes but only by the slimmest of margins.

Having said that I certainly wouldn't describe either band as such if pressured to categorize them.
Personally I think we do bands a disservice when we attempt to pigeon-hole them into a category or style.

The glam: men who wear women's clothing and makeup. They do it outrageous try to get attention and record deal. The music is simple the lyric they write about sleazy topic.
Janes and Pyros havesome glam look but music is too complex and is not the glam. Maybe Strays is some glam music I do not know.

Thanks for the feedback, everybody! I kinda agree with all of you. But what about Satellite Party? A lot of different styles going on there. "Wish Upon a Dog Star" sounds goth to me, like an updated version of Gene Loves Jezebel's "Always a Flame." So you think there's any glam on Ultra Payloaded? From what I've read in the past on different forums, I think a lot of Jane's fans don't like that album but I think it's AMAZING!

this is nice thread! I like it very much this kind of discussion about is that or not, it's quite like or not too much, ecc! I remember an interview to Perry Farrell on italian magazine of the early ninenties and one question was: Perry you've created this band putting different things inside: the troogs, pink floyd, bowie, trex, Stooges, jimi hendrix, joy division, led zeppelin how did you? And Perry: I've been lucky!

Somehow, in my personal opinion Jane's had a bit of fancy "neo glam rock" as a consequence of band's esthetic and music styles both. Of course neither the first live album and the second and the third sounded like Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, Roxy Music or Trex but for the truth they didn't sound like Led Zeppelin even thought this band was one of the most influential for the early Jane's (for the critics and sense of common at least). So the question has no answer cause Jane's remind to different things in the mean time, they were not only a band but the band. Neo glam rock of Placebo or other band that play a sort of art rock it's different. It's possible categorize them under this definition. They are neo glam rock cause they sound like a sort of glam revival.

When i'm listen to jane's one time i thinking to somethings and the second i thinking to another, Up the beach for example, in the beginning remind me Joy Division or the goth style in general but in the same time the bass riff take me to the intro of Aerosmith Sweet emotion, when Dave comes i think to something near to Pink Floyd or similar. Perry's voice used like a strument remind me anyway Steven Tyler on Sweet emotion without vocoder. Now i am used but when i discovered Jane's many years ago, at the end of the song i didn't know what song was! This the same sensation for other song.....Had a dad, was hard rock but has the irruence of Stooges......Ocean size was Led Zeppelin but the riff remind wild thing of the troogs/jimi hendrix. Ritual de lo habitual it's completely different...and different again itself. The first live album remind me Pere Ubu, The stooges and Led Zeppelin.

JANE'S ADDICTION what an amazing band! Absolutely Jane's Addiction...not Absolutely Bowie!
