I feel for Perry here,he is a kind, loving soul who wants to love and be loved.I do think he is hurt over the fans reactions.At the same time he is an artist who has his own ideas and wants to keep up with the times.He wants his music to progress and not regress.We already have the sounds of Jane's Addiction that we grew up too decades ago.
Im excited for a new sound,new ideas.
I have faith in Perry

Perry Farrell is one of the artist getting old in a strange way and for the truth i don't like his actual attitude, too much conformed to a mainstream style doesn't belong to him somehow i like it very much what you have wrote and me too, i have faith in Perry! It's not important what an artist says about how could be his next work, he obviously must says something and often couldn't be the true. I don't like sincerely neither radiohead nor muse but i'm glad to know what's kind of band jane's addiction are and i'm so sure that today they could make a great album and this summer i'll be here to write my positive impression about it. The matter of fact for me, it's knowing that the band are working on new material. This is so exciting cause i always know that this band can move on always in new direction and it will be. Of course for me any radiohead or muse album will not be comparable.

at least the only thing we should consider is that the human journey of an artist is always fickle as it is everyone's life, as a mirror in front of us, often it is here that the essence of his music and art goes on and on, even if his life goes on worst

Oh, I see, Trevor, so Eric didn't quit, they kicked him out, and Eric didn't want to record new music, so this was the reason that they kicked him out.

To you that is the credible alternative to Eric having quit because though they tried really hard to write and record, and did write and record a number of things, in the end things didn't work out because of artistic and personality differences.

Anyways, I share your desire for less metal and mainstream rock radio music influence, as you wrote about here and in another thread, so let's leave it at that.

hey jasper, all i'm saying is that press statements are often used to part amicably. i agree that it is much nicer when breaking up to say stuff like ... 'it just didn't work out', or 'we wanted different things', or 'we wanted to record and he didn't'. i think if perry were to say it was because eric is such a douche bag he would feel bad because he doesn't really want to be that way about it. so instead he just came up with a superficial reason that lets bygones be bygones.

I like what Perry said about the direction of the new album. Esp this quote:

The songs all relate to the general theme of The Great Escape. "It's conceptual," Farrell says. "It could be escaping to the outdoors, or the great escape could be in your mind.

I think "The Great Escape" is going to pleasantly surprise people. Looking forward to hearing it.

All I'm saying is that Perry claiming that Eric didn't want to record so they kicked him out is in no way letting "bygones be bygones." It's a self-serving lie and it's demonstrably false. To try to frame it as Perry taking the high road cannot work.

The rest of the article (aside from the Duff part, I guess, but who cares) is very nice. Taken with the new article w/ Steve and Dave, the album sounds like it could be worth listening to. Although Steve mentioning metal scared me a little. Metal was/is part of the Jane's sound, so if it's used wisely, it could be good. Will it be used wisely? We shall see.
