Interesting to find out that I have one of only 50-60 Worktape 1's.

(Now if only it were worth $1000+ like Skinny Puppy's "Back and Forth" tape )

I have to hang my head in shame - I saw Shiva Burlesque many times as well, and did not recall Rich being in that band.

After reading this Grant Lee Buffalo history page, I didn't know that Biff Sanders was in the band at one point, either - I knew Biff, he later produced my ex's first album!

The original lineup would evolve over the years, but at one time or another, Shiva Burlesque featured the likes of James Brenner (later of Scenic), Biff Sanders (Four Way Cross, Ethel Meatplow), Rich Evac (Phsycom), and a handful of others.

(Note oddball spelling of "Phsycom" [sic].)

Yeah I'm really happy I've got a copy of this tape too and now knowing how few were made I feel a lot better about what I paid for mine.

Having gotten mine second hand I didn't get a patch or sticker but the fact that "different things were just “thrown in” randomly" is pretty neat in my opinion.

I transferred mine to digital a few years back and have been told by several people that it's the best sounding transfer they've heard.

I've shared it here previously and just checked to see if the download link was still working but it's not.
If there's interest I can upload it for anyone wanting to hear it that doesn't want to wear out their tape.

I don't suppose you recorded any of those old shows? audio or video? It's great to hear about those old shows, but even better to hear those shows!

I have only recorded one or two shows in my entire life, usually when I asked the sound guy to throw a tape in if it was a band I knew (like Abecedarians, who I recorded at Beyond Baroque in Venice not too long after the Psi Com show there).

I've never known the answer to the perennial "How do you get tape recorders in to shows without being caught?" dilemma, so I've never tried. Sorry.

Update: Still no transfer of my tape (anyone in LA want to lend me an Apogee Duet? ).

In the interview Rich states he didn't know anything about "Fourteenth Floor" or "Greedy Was The Beggar", right? (What about "Human Condition"?)

Given that they're 2 of the songs on the unearthed Club Lingerie 6/13/1985 show, has "Jay" made any attempt to tell Rich about that recording? I suspect if he heard that recording he'd probably say they were written after he left the band ...

Now I'm wondering if I was at that "last show" (7/14/1984) at the Anti-Club ... I know I went to see them there at least twice ... and I know I saw Rich play with them more than once (the first time was when they opened for Alien Sex Fiend 4 months' prior).

This really makes me wonder which show I bought my Worktape 1 at! I suppose it's possible they were selling the tape after Rich & Mariska left the band, but it would make more sense that I bought it when they were still in the group.

We can definitely ask if we're able to do a follow-up, but I'd bet he probably wasn't involved w/ that either - it seems like all the Mohini album stuff came along later.

Not yet, that'd be something else for a follow-up.

You're probably right there. The impression I got was that Rich was the one handling that sort of stuff, and since he still had some of the tape labels and pieces years later, that would reinforce it.

I think while he was in the band, Rich was their "leader" - when he and Mariska left, Perry took more control of the band. I think their attitude and music reflected more of who Perry was. I think you can really hear, Psi Com's sound evolve and by the time you hit the Mohini album, the seeds of what bloomed into JA - especially w/in Perry's singing.
