The jury’s still out on how far music can change the world, but this fact hasn’t deterred Perry Farrell. While so many “celebrities” lead overtly selfish lifestyles, the former Jane’s Addiction frontman has been campaigning for progress on issues including human rights and the environment. Ever the inspired visionary, his latest project brings together a collective of forward-thinking musicians, including Flea, Peter Hook and Fergie, to create a wildly varied rock album filled with euphoric sounds and uplifting messages. Undoubtedly, Farrell isn’t naïve enough to think that singing about love and unity will end poverty, war and disease. But if all change has to start somewhere, then a happy and positive state of mind is as good a place as any.
