Mike: You may or may not want to answer this next question but I’ll ask it and if you don’t that’s fine. I know we’ve talked about it in private before. The same user nexis wants to know “Why did Nuno abandon Satellite Party in the middle of your tour?”
Etty: That’s a very good question actually and I will make an educated guess. Extreme.
Mike: OK.
Etty: After Europe um… I guess the whole time he’d been discussing an Extreme reunion that we didn’t know about. First of all there was obviously a difference in musical style so they always bumped heads and there has always been a little bit of friction regardless. It came as a shock. I think he um… I thought we were all getting along and we were talking about in Europe… we were talking about when we were touring America maybe we would both chip in to rent like an extra bus for a week so our family could tour with us. I remember one of the last cities we were in was in France. He was staying behind and we were all going. I helped him pack like thirty bottles of wine. I helped him pack it all up so he could take it to the next destination since they can’t ship this back. And I thought everything was great and then less than what a week? I think a week out from our tour we received a letter saying that he quit. The next thing we know there’s a big thing about Extreme doing a reunion show. So I can only assume that it’s an Extreme thing.
Mike: Yeah I saw that on the web and I thought awe man. I thought… personally it doesn’t really matter what I think. But I thought it was shitty for him to quit with all those dates coming up in America but it happens I guess.
Etty: It certainly happens and I think he fits better with Extreme. As you know Perry is extremely strong willed and in all of his projects he likes to have control. Nuno is the same way. He runs the Extreme camp. Everybody does what he says there right. So we have two people with strong personalities. It’s hard to work well together and being that this is Perry Farrell’s Satellite Party, its Perry’s project, its Perry’s name that’s out there I think Nuno just probably wasn’t getting as much input as he liked as he would like. He’s much happier with Extreme now anyway. He belongs with Extreme. He has a great time and he plays these long loud solos all over the place. He belongs there.
Mike: OK.

Well I thought that last part was going to be it for tonight but it seems my typing is improving.

Mike: There’s a rumor going around and I wanted to ask you about this before I forgot. It’s not one of the member’s questions but there’s a rumor going around that Perry was possibly going to join Velvet Revolver. Any truth to that whatsoever?
Etty: You know what? NO!
Mike: OK.
Etty: Absolutely not. I have heard NOTHING. NOTHING but somebody else did ask us that. We have not heard from our manager, their manager, any of their members, nothing. No, nothing direct has come at us.
Mike: I think Perry and Slash could make some good music together but when I read this I did some serious head scratching. I didn’t think it was true either and I put it… I made a note to ask you about it.
Etty: Yeah that was the weirdest thing somebody else asked me that and I thought no, right um, um nothing. Not even a question that came from anybody you know like their manager, our manager, Slash, any of the band members and we know all of them.
Mike: OK.
Etty: Nothing, I don’t know where this information came from.
Mike: It was supposedly on a Velvet Revolver website. It could have been some fan that made it up. I don’t know.
Etty: Someone made it up. (Laughing)
Mike: I haven’t tracked it down. But I guess there’s something going on with Scott Weiland and possibly they were looking for a new singer. The thing that made me definitely think aah this is BS was that Perry was going to quote, quote tryout for Velvet Revolver.
Etty: No, I don’t think that’s going to happen.
Mike: Exactly!
Etty: But I did hear that STP may be getting back together.
Mike: That’s why I guess they were going to be looking for a new singer.
Etty: That would be right because they won’t have one.
Mike: OK.

With this question we return to you, the members of these forums questions.
Mike: Another member of the forum, (www.perryfarrell.net) vikkivale. You know her as …
Etty: Yeah I know her and I love her. Hi _________.
Mike: OK. She had a question she said “I noticed someone filming on stage at three of the Satellite Party shows I went to in the fall. Are you planning to release the footage at some point or was that just for personal posterity?”
Etty: We at the time we hired a media team to be on tour with us. What our goal was at that time we hired this media team and their only job is to record, do archival stuff, and to update our myspace page and our facebook. Our goal was to have a new like two minute clip every other day of different things happening and that was why we had them. I don’t think they did a very good job because they didn’t have that many pieces done. But we have the footage. I’m not sure what we’re going to do with it yet.
Mike: Well I can give you my address. (Laughing)
Etty: (Laughing) It’s a lot… they’re big files too because I think everything was filmed in high def.
Mike: Excellent! Well I’ll give you my mailing address then. (Laughing)
Etty: (Laughing)
Mike: (Laughing) Alright um… yeah those guys you were touring with, Mink it was like their myspace… I was getting bulletins everyday that they had more clips up and it was awesome. A lot of it was from when they were touring with you guys which is how I got to know about them.
Etty: O yeah they’re very, very good at it and why they’re good at it is that they do it themselves. They… everyday they have this great little unit running. Everyday one person is responsible for putting a clip up. So they always, always, always have new material and we thought we were getting that by paying somebody. But I don’t know what went wrong with us. It doesn’t seem like we have very good luck when it comes to things like that. But Mink is amazing. I recently updated facebook, Perry’s facebook and a quarter of the emails came from Mink. They’re so good at hitting people up and hitting people up and they do it themselves. So, they’re a great band they work very, very hard and they deserve to make it big.
Mike: They’re going to be here in Cleveland next month. (2/27) I’m planning, hopefully… pending a few things but I’m definitely planning to go check them out down at the Hard Rock.
Etty: You know when they come to town I’m going to go see them too. Great guys they spent a month out here in December.

This question sheds a bit more light on the Box Set.
Hopefully Etty will follow up with me some time down the road with more details.
Hopefully Etty will follow up with me some time down the road with more details.
Mike: Alright one other thing this is in regards to the Box Set…
Etty: Um huh.
Mike: … and vikkivale is not the only person that mentioned it. This is on my mind and probably you know any hard core Jane’s Addiction fan’s mind. Can you please remind Perry to make sure that the Three Days poem is included on the Box Set?
Etty: You know what people keep asking me that. I did ask him and he thinks he has a recording of it somewhere. Maybe you can explain to me, what is so significant about it and can’t you figure it out from listening to the song if you hear it over… many times?
Mike: You cannot figure it out. It gets lower in the mix as the music gets louder. As the song is coming in… you know the way it gradually builds. It just gets lost in the mix. Maybe you’ll be able to pick out a word here or there but you cannot make out the whole thing.
Etty: Aah.
Mike: No matter how hard you try. We have maybe... I don’t know maybe half of it figured out or so as a group of fans but that’s as far as we’ve ever been able to get.
Etty: Well I’ll ask him again. It’s certainly something to consider but you know there’s only so many things you can fit on a Box Set.
Mike: Do you have any idea on the Box Set… one thing… I’m sorry to keep bringing this back up but you’re somebody I can talk to and ask about it. If I don’t I’ll probably have people yelling at me for not asking when I have you on here. How many DVD’s is this supposed to be? How many CD’s? Do you have any idea on that?
Etty: I have no idea. I just know that the… well there’s going to be at least one for GIFT, one for Soul Kiss.
Mike: OK.
Etty: That’s as far as I know and I think there has to be one with interviews and extra material. There’s also all that footage that Perkins has. I don’t know that’s a good question I should ask them that.
Mike: If you can find out from somebody and drop me a line to let me know if you can get any you know wrangle any details for me. Anything you can find out is great.
Etty: Yeah I think what happens is that they’re still trying to put it together that’s why. They’re just trying to figure… accumulate as much material as they can and then go through it and see what’s really important. And we’re always finding things in our house. We’re horrible at keeping things. The other day we were cleaning out our little cabinet where we put wrapping paper and bows and stuff and a few old video tapes fell out and it’s from their Mexico trip. It’s crazy.
Mike: Really?
Etty: Yeah we’re always discovering new things around the house.
Mike: From a Jane’s Mexico trip or from a trip Perry and you took to Mexico?
Etty: It’s Jane’s Mexico trip and on it, it says Mexico Sweat. So I guess they did this thing in Mexico where you go into this little dome and you just sweat and it’s suppose to cleanse you and you come out. I think they have footage of that.
Mike: This is the original era Jane’s Addiction?
Etty: Yeah, I think from ’88 when they went to Mexico City.
Mike: OK. I think it was a little later than ‘88 but…
Etty: Ooh.
Mike: That’s OK. I think it was…
Etty: You know more than me.
Mike: I think it was from ’90.
Etty: ’90. OK when they were in Mexico City.
Mike: They did a show in June of ’90 down there. We don’t even know the exact date. As much as I work on the tour history I haven’t had any luck figuring that one out.
Etty: Well we’ll see. Maybe one day when we play the video it’ll have a little date on it.
Mike: Cool.

THATS COOL...theres a sweat out here once a month
i try and make it once in a while...one year we went up to the North West PA/NY boarder and on the way it snowed over a foot....the covers werent on top the lodge yet and when we were getting ready we were all standing with our towels in the snow...
obviously the inside of the lodge was snow covered as well...i folded my towel up and knelt on it, once the water was pored it felt a lot better...that was a good lodge, it went for a while and was really hot...

faerieb, I apologize for botching your name.
No offense but I'm glad nobody else is going to hear me try to pronounce it.
No offense but I'm glad nobody else is going to hear me try to pronounce it.

Mike: Alright here’s a couple… I’m not sure if I’m going to pronounce her name right so I’m just going to spell it. It’s… her name is f a e r i e b. faerieb?
Etty: Um huh.
Mike: Something like that. But she had some questions that were directly for you which are good because it’s easier for you to answer stuff when it’s more related to you. She wanted to know “What was your favorite city on the last tour and why?”
Etty: Ooh that’s a tough one. That’s really, really unfair.
Mike: You can say Cleveland because you got to see me. (Laughing)
Etty: That’s a trick question because if I say New York then I’m so obvious. You know what I mean? Let me think. I could say which ones were interesting.
Mike: That’s fine.
Etty: The one that really stood out was New Orleans. The reason being is that we played at this club that was a block from away the Convention Center. From what I understood the whole area was flooded and the Convention Center was where a lot of people found refuge. At the time it was the Superdome and the Convention Center. It was very interesting to see this city after this catastrophe had happened. The people are still living and they’re still going but there’s so much water damage all over the city. The people have this shocked look in their faces. Like something horrible has happened to them and they still cannot believe it. They’re walking around like little deer in headlights. It took them a while to get into it, to be able to enjoy their selves. That was very interesting to me.
Mike: Hum.
Etty: The promoter said people were lined up and down the street, sleeping outside. That was a very interesting city. Of course you know New York is always a great city. We were there for a week. That’s about it we didn’t really get a chance to look around. We were doing shows back to back to back. You arrive at the venue, we’d play and leave.
Mike: Touring is nothing new for you. I mean you’ve toured with Jane’s since ’97.
Etty: Yeah.
Mike: So it’s probably not… I don’t know... like me if I went out on the road and got to visit all these cities it would be like WOW a real eye opener. I’d really… I guess maybe after you do it a few times it’s not as much fun or whatever.
Etty: It just becomes work although I have to say our Texas run was really fun because we had our boys join us on the road. So we went to the aquarium. The aquarium in Dallas is beautiful as is the one in Houston. I went to a lot of aquariums on this tour with the boys. Those were fun cities because my boys were out there with me.
Mike: I think I’ve seen some of those pictures on your myspace possibly.
Etty: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the one in Dallas no the one in Houston has a little amusement park attached to it. On their little merry go round are little sea creatures, animals and we went on it I think I would say close to twenty times. You can see the pictures we all look like we’re ready to throw up. (Laughing)

Thank you hydro!hydro wrote:Im enjoying reading the interview!this is too cool!!!Mike you and Etty are cracking me up![]()

I think I'm getting a little better at asking questions but I'm still no Walter Cronkite.
Etty and I were cracking up through out the interview and that's only possible when there's a level of comfort.
Like I said I think I'm getting better at it but I know my typing is improving.

33,270 characters, 19 pages and counting in word thus far.
There's still approximately twenty-four minutes to transcribe.
O yeah. I remember now.hydro wrote:but speaking of Faerieb I wanna give a lil shout out to her and tell everyone to check out her myspace. She gave Perry a beautiful necklace she made for him at the mr.smalls show that he wears often in alot of the photos we see him in.Shes starting her own jewlery store in pittsburgh that I hope to take a trip to one day to buy a beautiful piece of art she creates.you can see all her pieces here under her pics .they r awesome!!

Here's another question from our very own faerieb.
Mike: Another question from faerieb. She wants to know “Who is your biggest influence and why?”
Etty: Wow. I don’t… influences are kind of difficult to say because I trained and worked as a professional dancer. I was a ballerina so I love, love, love classical. We do… my ballet company would do Swan Lake every year so that’s still at this moment my favorite, favorite piece of music. I love musicals. I hope that one day I get to be in a musical. That would be my personal career goal in life. So that’s that, I would say mostly a lot of classical and musical theater stuff.
Mike: I saw something on your myspace also that kind of stuck in my head. “Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did only backwards.”
Etty: Except, and in high heels. (Laughing)
Mike: Is that what it was? And in high heels, alright I knew it was something like that. (Laughing)
Etty: It’s a good one right?
Mike: Yeah. Yeah.

Mike: Here’s another question I have. The Satellite Party debut release when it was purchased on itunes you could get the bonus track Nightbloom.
Etty: Nightbloom!
Mike: Will that ever… I love that song.
Etty: Ooh that’s a gorgeous song. That is a gorgeous song. We’ll have to play that. I think… you know what that song is actually very electronically driven. So it would work very well with the music we are working on now to put into our set.
Mike I know some of the people who heard it…
Etty: Don’t tell me they hate it. I’ll kill them. (Laughing)
Mike: No. No just the opposite. They thought… they bought the album through itunes and got the song and they thought it was the best track and couldn’t believe it wasn’t on the CD release of it.
Etty: Yeah I think it was more electronically driven and I think at that time our manager and the record label wanted to be more rock driven. But I think Nightbloom is one of the most beautiful, beautiful songs. That and Milky Avenue is my other favorite song on that record.
Mike: Yeah I really like that one too.
Etty: That song is amazing. I love that song.
Mike: Interesting.
