I think that is what separates Perry from a lot of his contemporaries. He seeks to bring about a positive influence through music and lift his audience up above the doldrums of everyday life without sounding cheesy. Whereas other groups often focus on the negative and depressing aspects because it may be easier to relate to and less of a chance of sounding cheesy. Its also good to hear he doesn't care so much about pleasing record companies/selling out.

I like hip hop, but i don't like their lyrics....

so Perry can bring some deep lyrics on a hiphop bases as well as electronics sounds.....

I wanna Perry producing a fantastic album of world-electronic music, singing with effect on downtempo and spacey loops, and some gentle Pete D. acoustic slide guitar .....

I like that idea too, focusing on the eastern-asian world/tribal rhythms with the slide guitar and psychedelic efx. i like hearing complex electronic drum loops/rhythms but whats even better is then having a real drummer play/record them live to give them a more organic feel.

This was a good thread so I bumped it. Since we know according to Etty, SP is doing almost full-on electronic I would wish them to do some of what is described above

Anyone ever hear "Acoustica: Alarm Will Sound"? It's (mostly) classical acoustic versions of electronic music composed by Aphex Twin. It's pretty damn cool, and this discussion reminded me of it.

I would kill for Perry to go in this direction being discussed. Natural, easy, small-scale, mildly psychedelic, interesting instrumentation with a mix of acoustic and electric, and perhaps some electronic. Polyrhythmic stuff with a folksy, world-y, mildly psychedelic vibe, and some modern experimentation touching upon those elements that seem to keep Perry engaged these days.

I think a lot of artists lose sight of the fact that something done on a smaller scale, with less gloss can actually be more successful than something with a lot of the more mainstream bells and whistles. It takes bravery to do it, but I really don't think as much bravery is required as one would think, because I think the chances of being really successful this way are much higher than one might expect. Ask Rick Rubin...he is an expert on taking the artist out of their "performer" zone and really finding their pure heart, and his success rate when he does is very high.
