Interesting that they had the packaging designed as far back as last summer. So much for "coming soon".hydro wrote:can not wait till I own this!!!!!!![]()

For reasons that can probably all be traced back to Dave Navarro's constant shirtlessness, Jane's Addiction rarely get the respect they deserve. No Pitchfork 500 inclusion, for one! Jane's frontman Perry Farrell founded Lollapalooza. That means no Jane's, no early 90s alt-rock takeover, which means most of the people reading this would still be jamming Huey Lewis and Peabo Bryson in 2009. OK, maybe not. But still, Jane's Addiction were important!
The seminal funk-metallers have a busy 2009 coming up. This summer, they'll co-headline a tour with Nine Inch Nails. And on April 21, Rhino will release A Cabinet of Curiosities, a limited edition box set of Jane's rarities. A Cabinet of Curiosities will include three CDs and one DVD in a wooden case. Or a cabinet, some might say.
The first disc is all unreleased demos from 1986 and 1987. The second has more demos, but also unreleased live tracks and beloved rarities covers of the Grateful Dead, the Stooges, and Led Zeppelin, as well as a version of Sly and the Family Stone's "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey" that they did with Ice-T. There's also a live song called "Bobhouse" that consists of the lyrics to Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" over the music from Bauhaus' "Burning From the Inside". See, Jane's Addiction were way ahead of the whole mashup trend, too. A recording of a December 1990 live show, meanwhile, comprises the whole third disc.
The DVD will include Soul Kiss, the notorious Jane's documentary previously unavailable on DVD. It'll also feature the "Mountain Song" video that MTV banned and various music videos and home movies.
That's not the only Jane's Addiction reissue coming out on Rhino, either. On Record Store Day, April 18, independent record stores will get Rhino's 180-gram vinyl reissues of the 1988 Jane's album Nothing's Shocking and 1990's Ritual De Lo Habitual. So yeah. Good job, Rhino.

Nice find hydro!
It looks like a few tracks that were on the previously posted track list have been lopped off.
All three Capitol era tracks from disc two are missing.
13.JUST BECAUSE
14.SUFFER SOME
15.THE PRICE I PAY
Not totally surprising after what Perry said when I interviewed him.
The DVD has also been pared down according to this track list.
I see one less version of MOUNTAIN SONG and no DON'T CALL ME NIGGER WHITEY.
I like that they mention that the "box" is made of wood.
I definitely hope that this proves true.
I have most of this stuff already but I still can't wait to get my paws on it.
Very interesting that we will be getting the 180 gram vinyl versions of NS and Ritual too.

Mike: This is a question that nexis asks and I actually have a lot of interest in this as well. As will a lot of others. Do you have any demo songs in your catalog that never made it onto an official release that you would be willing to release through a medium like itunes for your devoted fans?
Perry: Yeah. Well we do we have… there’s songs that we recorded for “Strays” that we never finished… we never… we didn’t put on the record. I think there was at least two or three of them.
Mike: One I can think of is “Bring The Mood” but I can’t think of any others.
Perry: Yeah that song could be… that could’ve been great and I wanted to release it. We’re putting… supposedly we have a box set that should be coming out with all the rest of our material the last Jane’s stuff. Of course Capitol Records doesn’t want to release those tracks. They don’t want to be helpful at all. I wanted to put their stuff on there to the Capitol Records stuff and they wouldn’t cooperate with Warner Bros. So fuck them. It will sit there for I don’t know how long. Who knows? Maybe one day they’ll get their acts together and do it. But other than that I don’t know. Maybe Stephen Perkins has got stuff lying around?

4-Disc Jane's Addiction Rarities Box Set Coming April 21
Jane’s Addiction aggressively melded avant-garde, funk, metal, and punk sounds with raw sexual energy and became an incomparable force. On April 21, Rhino celebrates the legacy of Jane’s Addiction and unearths A Cabinet of Curiosities, a 3-CD/1-DVD Jane’s Addiction boxed set of demos, live performances and rarities that includes 30 unreleased tracks. The set will be available from Rhino in stores and at rhino.com in a striking, limited-edition wooden cabinet for a suggested price of $74.98. A digital version will also be available at all digital retail outlets. Audiophiles and vinyl geeks take note that on April 18, to celebrate this year’s Record Store Day, Rhino will release 180-gram vinyl versions of the seminal Jane’s albums Nothing’s Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual for a suggested price of $17.98 and $24.98 respectively.
The Cabinet collection focuses solely on the band’s original incarnation of vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins. Last year, this founding foursome played together for the first time in 17 years and has since raised eyebrows with a trio of celebrated secret underground shows in tiny clubs around Los Angeles. Now, with 43 tracks on CD, A Cabinet of Curiosities offers a comprehensive look at the band from demo recordings of key tracks from Nothing’s Shocking (1988) and Ritual de lo Habitual (1990) to live recordings of the band roaring through its best songs onstage.
The set opens with five songs recorded in 1986 during a session at Radio Tokyo studio in Venice, CA, including an unreleased version of “Jane Says.” The remaining 11 songs on disc one are unreleased demos from 1987 that feature futures Jane’s classics including “Three Days,” “Ocean Size,” “Classic Girl,” “Summertime Rolls,” and “Stop!”
The second disc contains more unreleased demos (“Ted, Just Admit It…”) along with a recording of the band rehearsing “My Time” and a 12” remix of “Been Caught Stealing.” The disc also rounds up stray songs from various compilations (Grateful Dead cover “Ripple,” “Don’t Call Me Nigger, Whitey” with Ice-T & Ernie C) as well as rare and unreleased live cuts including roaring covers of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” and the Stooges’ “1970” as well as the live staple dubbed “Bobhaus,” which features lyrics from Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” sung over the music of Bauhaus’ “Burning from the Inside.”
Jane’s Addition made great albums, but its the band’s live shows that cemented its legacy. All of the darkness, soul, aggression, and musical zealousness came pouring out night after night as the foursome gelled into a thunderous and dangerous machine. The third disc features a complete live show from December 19, 1990. This performance was the second show from the band’s legendary three-night run at the Hollywood Palladium and features a number of fiery, unreleased performances including “Mountain Song,” “Whores,” and “Ocean Size” and “Been Caught Stealing.”
The DVD included with A Cabinet of Curiosities begins with “Soul Kiss,” previously available only on VHS, which features the video for “Mountain Song” that was banned by MTV, a video for “City” and candid home movies of the band. The DVD also brings together six additional music videos as well as a trio of unreleased 1990 performances taped in Milan for MTV Italy.
The wooden curio cabinet that houses the limited edition set looks like a shrine to the band made by an adoring fan. The box opens to reveal recreations of early concert fliers, ticket stubs, a set list and other memorabilia.

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/jan ... 5912.storyJane's Addiction Unlocks Four Disc "Cabinet of Curiosities"
February 26, 2009 04:34 PM ET
David J. Prince, N.Y.
Just in time for the reunited Jane's Addiction's summer tour, the long-in-the-works rarities collection "A Cabinet of Curiosities" will arrive on April 21. The 3-CD/DVD Rhino box set is packed with demos, live performances, non-album tracks, and remixes.
Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins has been sorting though the band's unreleased material for almost two years to put together "Curiosities," which features 43 audio tracks and an 11-song DVD. "As far as the packaging and the content, it's going to be loaded," he told Billboard in January 2008. "We're hoping to step it up into kind of a more 'collector's item' sort of situation. As far as the content, I've got a whole six or seven boxes full of stuff. We're going through it with Warner Bros., and seeing what's appropriate -- what's usable as far as, 'How far do we want to go with lo-fi?'"
The resulting "Curiosities" collection, which will be released both digitally and as a $74.98 limited-edition wooden cabinet, focuses entirely on the band's original foursome of singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, Perkins, and bassist Erik Avery. Material recorded with the later Avery-less incarnation is not included.
While the first two discs are comprised mostly of previously unreleased demos and little-heard compilation tracks, the third disc is a complete Jane's Addiction live concert recorded during the band's three-night run at the Hollywood Palladium in December 1990. The DVD
includes the rare VHS-only short film "Soul Kiss," music videos and three unreleased live clips taped for MTV Italy in 1990.
As previously reported, the original lineup of Jane's Addiction is touring with Nine Inch Nails this summer and are also set to headline May's Sasquatch Festival in Washington State.
