The Reznor Sessions

Post by intertwoven »

I'm working on updating the "recording history" on my site. http://somediverswhistle.com/recording/
Mainly, adding info on the Reznor sessions.

Here's what I've got so far:
"the reznor sessions"
Date: circa December 2008 / January 2009
Location: ?, Los Angeles, California
Musicians: Perry Farrell (v), Dave Navarro (g), Stephen Perkins (d), Eric Avery (b)
Producer: Trent Reznor, Alan Moulder, and Atticus Ross
Tracks recorded:
Embrace The Darkness
I'll Protect You
Whores
Chip Away
Additional notes: After reuniting with original bassist Eric Avery, the band eventually entered the studio to work on new songs near the end of 2008 or early 2009. The two new tracks, "Embrace The Darkness" and "I'll Protect You" were left unfinished, however, due to tension between the guys, allegedly with Eric and Perry clashing about the direction of the songs. Instead, two old tracks were recorded, "Whores" and "Chip Away", both of which had been put out in live form on the first Jane's Addiction album (Triple X), but hadn't ever had studio versions released. These two tracks were made available for free download on a site promoting the upcoming tour with Nine Inch Nails in May-July 2009. The NINJA 2009 Summer Tour EP was made available through NINJA2009.com on March 20, 2009, with multitracks to the two Jane's songs being made available on remix.nin.com a few days later. The two new songs have remained unheard by fans (They have not been performed live either). Dave has commented that while he likes the new songs, neither was quite good enough to be the first new JA song (from the classic lineup) in 18 years. According to Eric, during the time of these sessions, the band "manages to almost implode again. so again, the answer is hit the road play some shows and see if we can keep it together and get some good mojo going." Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out that way and Eric officially left the band again after touring commitments were completed in early 2010. The band continued on with Duff McKagan taking over on bass, and it's believed "Embrace The Darkness" and "I'll Protect You" were dropped in favor of writing all new material.
Anything to add? I'd like to know the name of the studio, try to narrow down exactly when they took place, if I can. Anybody know how to search twitter tweets? Or maybe how to jump to a certain archived month or something? I want to look at Dave's old tweets from late '08 / early '09 and look for clues (was Dave even on Twitter back then?)

From what I understand I'll Protect You is incomplete and Embrace The Darkness kicks ass.
I know the ass kicking part doesn't help but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

I was looking at the pictures from the NIN site because I thought all their meta data was intact and thought it would give us a more exact date but the "date picture taken" data is gone.

I could have sworn it was there. :headscratch:
The earliest "date modified" date I have is February 8, 2009 if that helps.

I'll see if I can find out anything else.
