I was just thinking, someone with good video editing skills/equipment should put together a DVD of 9/26/91 Hawaii using the soundboard audio and the 2 video sources. I believe both sources are somewhat incomplete, but between the two of them, I think you could get most of the show. And with the sweet audio, that'd be a great DVD!

I personally would rather someone use the audience recording for such a project or maybe it and the SBD.
The audience recording is more complete and Perry isn't as high in the mix.

I dunno I just like it better but I guess whoever takes it on can decide what they want to use.

yeah, I suppose making a hybrid or matrix or whatever you call it when you mix together sbd and aud would be cool too.

My understanding of the terminology of mixing sources is this:

Matrix is a mix of a soundboard and audience recording.
Collage is a mix of sources to make a show as complete as possible.

In the case of the 9/26/91 show you mention I think a matrix would be the best way to go.
If somebody could tame Perry in the soundboard source and add the audience source it would be ace.

I've heard a half dozen or so Zeppelin shows where this has been done and the result is just terrific.
What they did was put the SBD in the front channels and the AUD in the back.
The result is likely much like what it sounded like at the show, with the band up front blowing you away and you kicking back in the audience.

cool. I'd imagine it'd be hard to sync up 2 sources exactly, especially when one or more is analog. But I suppose it can be done with a little work. I remember once years ago I tried to watch the audience vhs of 3/12/91 Nottingham while listening to the audio via the bootleg CD Down in Flames.. worked well for a few songs, then started to diverge a bit.

One time I had success with matrices (cool word) is the Gobalee show from '98. There are 2 audience videos.. one is up close and bass heavy with not much treble. the source other is far away, treble heavy with not much bass. I mixed the audio from those 2 to create a nice blend. That show is only like 15-20 minutes, I believe, so stayed in sync just fine. If I had the means, I'd love to make a DVD using the matrix audio and a 2-cam mix of the video sources.. but alas, I don't currently.

Another bootleg project I'd like to see is a collage (thanks for the terminology, Mike! haha) of Pyramid 86 using the clear recording from Live & Profane, mixed with the tape-hissy "more complete" version to fill out the parts that are missing on the better, incomplete recording.

Someone made a great a great one last year of Fugazi's infamous rants: http://www.chunklet.com/index.cfm?section=blogs&ID=574. A Jane's collection, if done really well, would be hilarious and could appeal to people far beyond just hardcore fans.

Yeah, that'd be cool. I know back in the day there use to be a "Perryisms" website. And I've been slowly adding lots of quotes to the "Notable Moments" section of the gigography here (Pyramid 86, for example). But that's not quite the same as hearing it for yourself. I think a Perry banter comp would have to include in-song rants too (esp. the middle of "Pigs").

Currently I'm working on a similar project of 4/7/91 Spain.. making a collage from the radio broadcast (which is A-/B+ quality and has a few cuts) with "Ted" and "Summertime" from the Kleptomaniac CD (A quality).
