Epiphone Dave Navarro Acoustic Electric Guitar

Post by Mike »

Dave tweeted the following pic of himself at work in the studio yesterday.

I think it's a pretty sweet looking guitar and I really love the inlay work.
Anyway I was looking around and it turns out Epiphone is making these to sell.
Here's some details and some pics.
Epiphone Dave Navarro Acoustic Electric Guitar

Dave Navarro teamed up with Epiphone to create a versatile acoustic electric guitar with exceptional stage sound, playability and solid-wood tone combined with a bold visual statement that is as unique as the man himself!

Introducing the Dave Navarro Acoustic Electric: With his six-string skills best described as a merger between heavy metal, psychedelia, and modern rock, Dave Navarro became one of alternative rock's first true guitar heroes. From his ground-breaking work with Jane’s Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers to his guest appearances on landmark recordings such as Nine Inch Nails’ Further Down the Spiral and Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill, Dave Navarro was one of the first rock guitarists not to confine his playing to just one style.

It Starts with Solid-Wood: Epiphone is famous for making great sounding and affordable solid-wood acoustic guitars and Dave’s Navarro’s new signature model is no exception. It starts with a solid Sitka Spruce top, hand-scalloped bracing, Mahogany kerfing and a solid Mahogany back. Hand-fitted to the elegant Venetian cut-away body using a traditional dove-tail neck joint and hide glue is a Mahogany neck with a 25.5 inch scale length solid Ebony fingerboard. The result is a dreadnought guitar with naturally deep, rich bass, clear mid-tones and punchy highs capable of cutting through – even uplugged. Made to Perform: But if you’re looking for a guitar that comes alive with real acoustic tone when plugged in, the new Dave Navarro is just the one for you. Epiphone’s eSonic preamp system with the revolutionary NanoFlex under-saddle pickup gives you the control and sound quality you need when performing live. Designed in cooperation with and made by Shadow of Germany, the eSonic is a small, lightweight preamp powered by two long-lasting Lithium batteries. It features a fast and extremely accurate built-in chromatic tuner that allows you to mute the output of the guitar while tuning or while unplugging to avoid any loud pop. Other controls include Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, a Dynamics slider that acts as an EQ frequency shifter and a phase switch to help eliminate feedback. Under saddle is Shadow’s Nanoflex pickup. Not a piezo, the NanoFlex design utilizes 7 highly-sensitive and ultra-responsive layers of sensor material to not only sense the vibrations of the strings but the vibrations of the guitar body as well. This produces results equivalent to a condenser-microphone mixed with an under-saddle pickup. The Nanoflex is the first pickup to incorporate active amplification directly at the pickup. As a result, the signal does not pass through even a single millimeter of the wire and therefore, the signal quality is uncompromised. Combined with its 100% shielding, the Nanoflex is absolutely and completely noise free. Stunning Looks and Professional Features: Finished in a high-gloss Ebony color, the body is multi-bound on the top and on the back with contrasting white binding as is the fingerboard and headstock. The sound hole features an inlaid rosette combining both binding and Abalone. As a personalized touch, the multi-layer truss rod cover features Jane in white while the very thin clear pickguard features a haunting line drawing. The artwork is printed on the underside of the pickguard to preserve it for years and years to come. Other professional features on the new Navarro acoustic/electric include 16:1 ratio Grover machine heads for stable and accurate tuning, nickel hardware, a solid Rosewood bridge with bone saddle and a slightly wider nut width of 1.725 inch for easy, precise fingering.

It's hard to see on the pictures but the guitar that Dave is playing looks like a full body acoustic with black sides, the later ones look like a thin body with white sides.

...my eyes could just be bad though.

Hum now that you mention it it does look like the sides are white.
It could be the glare but if the sides are white that would be a deal breaker for me.

I guess the pics where the sides of the guitar appear white are just an optical illusion.
I'm going to try and confirm this but both pics Dave has posted of him with the guitar the sides are clearly black.
