Gobalee

Post by nexis »

Found an interesting video of Perry performing around the time of Gobalee in 1998. Around 27min in Perry dances and sings 'King Z'.

But what I'm looking for is GOBALEE's performance at Golden Gate Park. From what I understand they do a great rendition of Happy Birthday Jubilee with Perkins on drums and Karl Leiker on bass guitar. With 1-2 more cuts that vary somewhat from what made it onto SYTBS. If anyone could post footage or additional info on Gobalee I would be thankful.

Perkins do awesome jungle tribe drum. Focus on bass guitar and jungle drum together then groove is more power. This is true. Why Perkins do not play more jungle tribe beats I do not know.

What an amazing group had circumstances permitted to progress even further into mind-altering territory with a cast such as---

A couple things.

1 Got to admit pf was smart to move on from ja and p4p and try something new. In some ways 1998-2001 was an improvement over both previous bands. That being said it was stupid of him to promote as DJ format tour rather than a band. Knowing pf's attention span of a 3 year old, his Gobalee would be shelved indefinitely.

2 Instead of investing the time needed into building a potential successful career apart from ja he opted to keep running back to creative dead ends with ja and spin his wheels aimeless. As a result ja has since been written off for what it is, a nostalgic cash-in no longer taken seriously by the music community.

Perry Farrell / Gobbelee , solo project of Perry Farrell (former Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros). the type of music is "world beat" and the live band has 14 members, including guitarists, background singers, a rapper, bassist, drummer and percussionists. there are also half a dozen or more colorfully dressed dancers.
